Genoa to Monterossa in Cinqe Terre 18 deg

A travel blog entry by kenb on Nov 06, 2014

... No kitchen. No facilities. 40€ Per night.ok value - clean and just few yrs old. Town has closed up out of season feel. Sea rough and lots debris on shore- obviously had big storm recently. Lunch at local bar - focaccia and tomato salad - pretty ordinary but what do we expect from a bar on seafront in tourist town. The town survives on cinque terre visitors - most building converted to tourism use - bars restaurants and accom. ...

Back up to real world and went into restaurant across road from hotel. Fantastic spag marinara ( fruiti di mare) and zuppa pesce which was also a meal on its own- a huge bowl crustaceans and small mullet cooked in same tomato sauce as spag. A great meal for € 25with wine. Served by a Ben ...

The buildings and laneways suggest a lifestyle so different from what ...

... Anyway, suffice it to say that we had a great meal and lots of laughs! Our waitress offered to take a picture of the entire group with Avi's camera. He tried to set up the picture for her and she clearly wanted nothing to do with that! :-). Flash - NO WAY! So - she took a picture of all of us and then Avi took one of her in his seat - along with the rest of us. Pretty fun!

And now, it's morning again. We had our final spartan breakfast at the ...

... shattering inspirations while wandering around Piedmont for 3 days, and it's felt pretty rushed--but does feel good to tell myself that I've finished exporing North and Central Italy (except some of the Alpine provinces and the Trieste area...) Tomorrow I go on another whirlwind "trip within a trip" to psyche myself up ...
