... left the dragons den, we were attacked, figuratively. We had not even put our feet onto the top step when a young lady approached us to take a tour on the river for ½ hour. She explained what we would see and how nice the weather was and how calm the river was. Sounded like a good thing so we waited for the dragon to spout fire again to get a photo and then followed her to the boat. We were the ...

Base Course Study Tour

... experience. First of all, our tour guide was amazing, and I learned a lot about the city and its history, especially pertaining to WWII. Second, the city itself was beautiful, young, and vibrant. Third, the food was to die for. I really do think that I lucked out with my base course. We by far had the best trip, in my opinion. I got to see a city that I probably would not have otherwise, one that just happened to be where my ancestors were from :)

Lost in Cabbage and Pork...

... light, so I have a lot of blurred shots :( So, on Friday, in a hysterical typical English Speaking Tourist move, we almost missed our train to Krakow. We managed to find the cabin and the seats and sat squished in with the locals. After 3 hours of playing "I-Spy-with-my-Little-Eye" and reading the guidebooks, we made it to the train station!! We made a quick dash to our very lovely hostel to dump out bags and set off to explore this ...

You are probably all wondering what my title is about. I had a great visit in Poznan. I was within a few blocks of the Old Town Square. I did my tour of the town when I arrived. I continued my visit in the morning. I decided not to go out and party that night. I caught up on some much needed sleep. I was finnally able to eat some food. The day reminded me of my trip to Mexico when ...

... driving bit, there is always a catch when they are going to that extent for customers. I walked to the hostel to find it was 5 dollars cheaper then what he had quoted me, and a fantastic hostel at that. As I was settling in I met 4 fellow roommates, one from England, 2 from N. Carolina and 1 from Brazil. That evening we all walked to the city center to find some authentic Polish cuisine. The food was amazing, Dumplings as appetizers, and chicken stuffed with ham and ...

... lack. The main square (Rynek Glowny) is the largest in Poland and surrounded by outdoor cafes and nice shops. Cloth Hall divides the square in two and houses a market today. St. Adalberts church is on one corner of the square while St. Mary´s Church dominates another. The historic Town Hall Tower is the only remaining part of the medieval town and dominates one end of Cloth Hall. A special annual folklore festival was underway so there were more vendors than normal around the ...

hello Actually im not going to say all that much. I have been wandering around Auschwitz all day, so im somewhat quiet, retrospective and whatnot at the moment. As well as buggered. I catch the night train to Budapest in about 2 hours (a 12 hour trip) to meet some friends there. Its my first night train actually, think i will be too paranoid to actually sleep at all. I will probably hang around in Hungary for the week ...

... previously belonging to the wooden buildings (left unused all winter), after the SS attempted to torch the evidence of their crimes. A long bitter-cold hike trudging through the snow showing the formidable conditions people lived and worked in, led us to the remains of the larger gas chambers / crematoriums. Train tracks led straight through the front gate to these dungeons of death where countless innocent people were gassed, cremated, and scattered onto nearby fields. The weakest ...

... gated wall was a village, the Royal Casle and the Cathedral, where the tombs of the late Polish kings and queens lay. To finish the day, we bought some gofry (waffles) with fruit and whip cream. Poland has turned out to be very economical for us, and we are enjoying it before we head into rest of Europe with the budget-busting Euro! We then picked up some wild raspberries to snack on and boarded the bus back to Zakopane.
