The artist Nakajima lived here so we went to see his work mostly depicting cherry blossoms, but there were works by other artists that to our surprise included Ayers Rock (Uluru). ... but no show. A nice young Japanese guy asked us if we were okay, so Rod phoned the hotel and he spoke with them. Turns out it was a miscommunication and our pick up was 11:55 and not as soon as our train arrived. The young people are great at helping as they want to practice their English. Woke early and caught a taxi to Ueno station. JR Shinkansen to Nagano, then electric train on the Nagano dentetsuline to Yudanaka. Walked up to our accomodation - Shimaya. Mr Yumoto is very helpful. He drove us to the snow monkeys, then we walked 1.6 km through the forest to see the monkeys. They were everywhere, little babies, sitting in the hot spring, picking nits from each other and ...

... presented breakfasts we have ever had (food tasted great as well!). We really didn’t want to leave after being pampered so throughly during our stay.

Next we caught the brand new (just started operation on March 14th!) Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano. Being a new route, even the locals were taking pictures in front of the new train prior to boarding.
