The whirlpools of Japan and Awajishima island

... I've ever experienced in my life. I thought that it would be awkward because it's like a huge public bath, but it wasn't nerve-wracking at all! It was the nicest 20 minute soak, then quick break, then another 15-20 minute soak.... there was an outdoor sauna where we could just lounge together in the hot mineral water and look over the edge of the water at the rest of the island and out over the ocean. It was just a very complete experience. Next, we left for the ship ...

And today I finally felt like I was in Japan.

... The ticketing process was quite complicated for a non-Japanese speaker, but we made it on the boat and saw a unique view of Tokyo, including bridges and lots of apartments. Everyone in Japan hangs their clothes outside to dry, even in more affluent households, due to lack of space in the homes. We also saw homeless men, who were just living along the river and not on the streets, and they had elaborate cardboard structures for their shelter.

Rokko Island Trip

On Friday I got to escape my desk in the teacher's office and go visit another JET's school. He teaches in Rokko Island which is the second artificial island in Kobe. It was made between 1973 and 1992 by removing a mountain and dumping it into the sea. Rokko island was one of the hardest hit areas by the 1995 earthquake and many structures had to be rebuilt since then. Because of this, the school we visited was very new and very modern. We ...

... So i was thinking like "Hey...japanese girls are actually pretty shy....i didn't notice that during my previous trip to Japan though".The train was getting really packed and i started wondering how to make my way out with my luggage without stepping on any toes. Finally the train pulled over at Osaka Station and i got off lugging my heavy bag, the station platform was really crowded with lots of commuters rushing to catch their ...

... ve been and I've stopped being able to function at the level I'm used to. I see things happening and it takes me longer to really get into them, to understand and appreciate. I really REALLY need time to absorb all this "stuff" and I really don't have it, it's just go-go-go! Well, soon it will be stop-stop-stop, we figure, so we might as well push ourselves to keep going for the last few days of Japan and then exams. We're all tired, but we have to keep going, that's just how it is so we might as well enjoy it!

Back in Japan safe and sound...

... our hangovers and being all excited to see each other after nearly 10 years we thought it would be fitting to go out on the town and celebrate some more. This time Kelly joined us and was kind enough to be our chauffeur for the evening. We went to a different club this time but it was run and owned by the same people/company of the previous club. Having had a taste of the life of a high roller we wouldn't settle for anything ...
