Of course this place has a style all its own we're in Japan! :) Very excited to be here. Destination: Shimoda and our home for 3 nights at Shirahama beach. It's a little surfie town that looks straight out of the seventies. Our plan is to relax after the big city. We're all glad to be here. Only drawback is the rain. We're hoping for some fine ...

... rain forest with here and there some rice and wasabi fields. We go over Funabara Pass and after a beautiful, long and winding drive we finally arrive at the Hotel. Commodore Perry returned to Japan in 1854 to find out that the Japanese had prepared a treaty accepting almost ...

Yuko and Chiyoko met us a little later. It was great to see Riko and Chiyoko - they have grown so much and they are developing into such beautiful young girls. We got into Yuko's car and she drove for about 30 minutes to a beautiful new hotel called Teranomon Hills, the ...

... and I definitely had to try this (first time!). For those who don't know onsen: it's a natural hot spring and these can be found all across Japan. It comes with it's own rituals. First you have to thoroughly soap and scrub yourself under a shower, while sitting on a miniature stool that seems to be designed for infants. Then you make sure that you rinse off all the soap (also from around your shower place), before you slowly enter the ...
