Recently I visited the Tajima region in Hyogo Prefecture to see Tajima cattle, the breeding cattle of Kobe beef.
After reading some articles from abroad on Kobe beef, I felt motivated to clear up the myth that surrounds this famous and revered meat from Japan.
Or, it just may be that I wanted to see the Tajima cattle…
It took me about two-and-a-half hours by train and bus to reach the Ota cattle ranch. The train I took is called the "Matsukaze" express ...

Kobe, Kinki, Japan cubnelaine... an experience in itself. It really is something just to go in the many flavors of establishments and browse the goods and check out the culture and people around. Consumerism is huge in Japan, but they pull it off in a much more enjoyable fashion then back home. It is entertaining to go shopping here.
Anyway, after a beautiful night down by the sea, we headed back to our hotel for one more night. The remainder of our adventure, would take place in Osaka.
... back to the bus stop (where we had an 1 hour wait to get back into town). At the bus stop , there was a shop selling all types of local foodstuffs (which you can try if you are hungry), these are very common in Japan. We were hungry so to fill our stomachs we pretended we were interested in each product, but bought none! In the evening , we found the only restaurant in town that ...
Tottori, Chugoku, Japan jon-daniella... then boil it in the hot sulphorous spring water (the sulphur does not affect the taste of the egg) it took about 30 minutes but the eggs were still a little runny but OK to eat. They gave us soy sauce to eat with the egg, though in my opinion, salt and pepper would have been better. Daniella`s favourite onsen was a private one too, but this one was inside. The room was large with lovely tiles and 2 spacious baths, 1 of which had recliners ...
Kurayoshi, Japan jon-daniella... my childhood home in Jacksonville. I also counted 17 different places that I have stayed. I have enjoyed living in Tottori as the prefecture is blessed with a beautiful coastline and green mountains with not many people. The people are nice too and I am sad to be living the great friends that I will miss. It was a very tough decision for me to make, to stay in Tottori or go back to Oregon. I love both places very ...

Tottori, Japan 1061kunGreetings to the first entry of my big trip. It is ten days before I start the first leg of my trip to Kyushu. It will be my second visit to Kyushu as the first one was in 1995. I am planning to go to Fukuoka and then head to Yufuin in Oita prefecture and then contrinue down to Kagoshima and onto Nagasaki. The trip is part of the plan to visit all the prefectures in Japan which will be down to 1 after the trip leaving only Fukui..
Tottori, Japan 1061kun... the front of many a travel brochure, and I was thankful for the beautiful weather which meant that it didn`t disappoint. I reached the best vantage point via a chair lift which made a change from the ropeway, and at the top was a cheesey 1950s style fairground blaring out an annoying soundtrack...typical Japan! I preferred to listen to my own music... My favourite part of the day came in the early evening when the Japanese tourists had ...
Kanazawa, Japan rich8-17-2006 Thursday Ahhh...it's nice to be back in my apartment again. :) Today after school, Zach and I took a train to Kyoto (the pictures actually correspond this time!). My favorite moment on that ride was when I looked away from the window as another train was passing by. "Ah! I get really car sick." I told Zach. "Oh, you do?" he asked, seemingly concerned. And then he started bobbing his head and body around in attempts of worsening my motion sickness. Hahaha! THAT DORK ...
