Tupiza Hostels - Reviews and Rates

Hi everybody,
It seems like ages since we´ve written a blog but it´s only been 3 weeks. The scenery is passing by in a flash and we´ve had a whirlwind tour, taking us from snow capped mountains in the south of Argentina all the way up to the desert in southern Bolivia. 30 degrees of latitude, 100 bus hours!
We last left you in Puerto Natal...

Anwyay got here after a very cold and bumpy ride in a bus that was built like a tank with huge wheels (I guess as we where pretty much going directly accross the desert). It was also as comfey as a tank (hum!).

The directions out of town to Tupiza, go to the end of the street turn left, at the sand patch go straight ahead, cross the railway line, no crossing just find a place where the sand has filled it in enough to ease the bumps. Then is is just straight down the bumpy gravel road.

Getting out of Salta was quite straight forward. The best bus we could get was a Semi-cama and, because it took 7 hours to reach the border town, La Quiaca, we took the midnight bus, we would have the full day to get where we needed to go, Tupiza, still have time to take a look around and try to book a tour of southwest Bolivia. We arrived in Tupiza after our horrible bus trips at 5am in the freezing cold. We walked around for ten minutes in the dark trying to find somewhere to stay but everywhere was closed so we went back to the bus station where we sat for the next two hours until sunrise. Arrived here and decided to stay. AMAZING looking town. Was going to push through to Uyuni today but after 10hours on the bus I couldn´t face another 7 and have hooked up with Jim and Mandy from the Bikes and Wines tour. Had a kip and off horse riding now. This place looks AWESOME and is TOTALLY another (third) world!

So we have made it to the wild west - much to the delight of Anna, we are in Tupiza where Butch Cassidy rode off into the sunset in the old western movie (watch ´butch cassidy and the sundance kid´! i will now need to when i get home.)
