Potosi Hostels - Reviews and Rates

Now back in Potosi for the 3rd (and not yet final) time. Yesterday we attempted to get to Uyuni but without success. We had heard several mixed reports about the state of the road ranging from totally unpaved to all paved except 20km so decided to give it a go and see how far we could get.

Having bought our tickets the night before when we turned up at the bus station we found that our bus was not running that day anymore so we were shoved onto another ...

I´ll backtrack a bit to catch up. Last time I wrote, I think I was in Puno. We didn´t find much to do in Puno, so we moved on the next day. We took a bus into Bolivia (!) stopped and lunched on the shores of Lake Titicaca, fresh trout from the lake. Then on to La Paz!

Unyuni itself is pretty much a shithole, so most people left the next day. Basically half of the group was going to La Paz and the other half was going to Potosi, the highest city in the world (4300 meter) and famous for its mine. Well it another early start today as we leave Tupiza to head off to Potosi. Or so we think, one hour in to our journey the road is closed and we are turned back to Tupiza. The road is only open between 11.30 and 1.30 for traffic, the rest of the time its under construction. I will never moan again about the road works or the state of the A1 ever...
