Crank the AC
The bus journey to Flores was hectic and full of dramas . We got in and out of that bus more times than you could poke a stick at. We got going and a half an hour down the road we get out, get a spare tire, get back in. We go around the corner, change the tire, everyone out, everyone in. We get petrol, get out, get in. Stop to wait for more …
Fun in Flores
Flores is an island in the middle of a lake, accessible by a bridge from Santa Elena town, in Guatemala. We arrived on a Sunday, so the town was very quiet and deserted - but walking into the hostel, it seemed like another world - it was like a little backpacker village. Unfortunately at this one we both scored top bunks, and the dorm room closest …
Stop! Hammock Time
Every now and then you have to take a little break and grab a spot or R&R. A night bus out of Flores to Antigua gave me just the excuse I needed to chill out, put my feet up and get some quality hammock time in.

Having already booked another night here I spent a lovely leisurely day …
Lazy Lakeside Lounging
Not to be confused with the much larger island of Flores in Indonesia, this Guatemalan entry is by no means insignificant. Although you would never know it now Flores was in essence the Mayans last refuge. When the Mayans were driven out of Chichen Itza and other cities in the Yacatan region of Mexico during the 13th century they came here. They …
Tikal ruins
Our 7 hour journey from Lanquin to Flores was just as bumpy as the night before. Again with an over-crowded shuttle bus, it made for a very uncomfortable ride. To top it off, there was a really annoying Israeli couple present who insisted on having the bus stopped at dangerous bends for fag breaks and constantly moaned about needing to go the …

This hostel was $55 Q per person per dorm bed. Rooms were hot and not ventilation at all.

This is a great hostel which has amazing food, a bar, wonderful food, and you are able to book tours to Tikal and shuttles to Sumac Champey with them. Highly recommend everyone to stay here if you are staying in Flores.

Not a bad hostel. Really cool setting with the Jungle like common area. Dorms are pretty tight and semi outside. Food is good but slightly pricey. The tours are priced higher than you can get from the tour opertors on the island.

Was a good hostel with good food offered but really more of a stopover place than anything else. A lot of people only stay a night or two and have early starts for tours to Tikal or else shuttles moving on to other parts of Guatemala. But a good choice if that is what you are planning to do too!!

The hostel is a bit expensive when compared with other options available on the lakeside in Flores, but that is compensated by the fantastic garden, staff, good food, art and om-shanti-inspired spirit and free wifi. Great place to link up with everyone you've met along the gringo trail.

Clean dorms, good food, great environment... highly recommeded!
Loved the multitude of pets wandering around... especially Pochi the salchicha dog!
But watch out for Luis the parrot... he can be mean when he is having a bad day.
