After a quick final yoghurt fruit and honey for breakky, we headed to Parikia to board a fast ferry to Rafina (mainland Greece).

The Sea Jet - funnily enough, this ship was built in FREMANTLE!

The journey was supposed to take about 2.5 hours.... 4 hours later, ...

WE find out alot of history about the island, its pretty much been taken over by the who's who of the ancient world; the Phoenicians', the Ottomans, the Venetians, the Italians... It's had several other names: Strongili (round island), Kallisti (most beautiful), and finally Santorini (which comes from the Italian sailors being so glad to see land that they prayed to their patron, Saint Irini...) This place has had earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and the volcano here ...

Said our farewells to everyone this morning and then we set out for the old Olympic stadium. On the way there we witnessed the changing of soldiers at their post which was kinda cool. We never did figure out what building they were guarding but I'll have to look that up. I forgot my student card for the Olympic stadium, and didn't wanna ...

... overlooking the caldera as the sun spectacularly set. It really does look like a crater with a central plug. Nobody drank too much as we were worried about the rough night to follow.

We caught the last cable car back down and were back onto the bouncing boat.

... plane ride to Santorini was only 25 minutes (there is a ferry/jet boat(?) from Athens which takes 4-6 hours (we forget), but given Ashley's propensity to car / plane / bus / boat sickness, we figured it wasn't the best idea, even if it would have ben a nice "cruise". We are taking a boat from here to Mykonos so we'll be able to report back on that experience. Getting in was uneventful and the city bus happened to be waiting so we jumped on and saved €10+ on a cab. ...
