Our trip so far to South America has been fantastic, we have seen so many beautiful landscapes and experienced so many different parts of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay that if the trip finished tomorrow, we would still remember it for a life time. We have seen forests, mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, beaches, an abundance of wildlife and some of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world. Our trip has taken us from Rio, down the east coast of Argentina (via Uruguay) to Rio Gallegos an...
Salta, Argentina caroline_littleWhen you think about travelling around the world you always think of visiting fantastic towns & cities, exotic destinations where the sun never stops shining and there are always a million and one things to do. Unfortunately this isn't always the case - we normally only stay 3 days or so in each town & if you get a couple of days of bad weather it can really dictate your feelings about a place. According to the guide books, Salta (the Beautiful as it is known to locals) is one of the ...
Salta, Argentina caroline_littleWe arrived in Salta off an overnight bus from Cordoba around 11am. We had been given breakfast on the bus along with our cereal bars which we had bought beforehand so feeling nice and full we walked the 3 blocks to our hostel. Our room wasn't quite ready yet so we sat in the communal area and the owner brought us some drinks. He asked Celia if she wanted some Cornflakes to which she replied that she didn't. He then turned to Lee and said 'vos?' (you) and he said 'yes' thinking that the guy ha...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina celeeaSo much for being all cleared up when I last wrote. About three hours later Patrick´s hives returned with a vengeance and covered almost his entire body. We ended up staying holed up in the hotel in La Quiaca (except for another visit to the hospital for another injection) for four days before finally making the decision to turn back, away from Bolivia and its lack of hygiene standards. The hives were not completely gone until the sixth day, we saw a dermatologist here in Salta and she assure...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina cookage15th to 18th April 2008 On Tues, 15th, I managed to get the bus from Puerto Iguazu for the 23 hour journey to Salta in north Argentina. We stopped at various places along the way - Corrientes, Resistencia and other smaller towns and cities that I have forgotten. We eventually arrived at Salta at 0900 on Wednesday morning and got to the hostel ok, which only 300m from the bus station. For the past few days, I have just been taking it easy, visiting the sights around the city and chilling out o...
Salta, Argentina duncanmDiwrnod 18 - Dydd Llun 08/09/08 Milltiroedd Tir a Deithwyd ~ Land Miles Travelled (Resistencia i Salta) : 450 miles Another sleepless night on the night on the bus - the early part of the journey passed by OK whilst watching a few DVD films on the Bus TV - then head down and try to sleep - all I know the bus stopped at every town on the way and at one time we were driving along a stretch of gravel road which made sleeping very difficult. I guess I had around 2 hours altogether and to me relie...

Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina robdy2kWe finally arrived in Salta, Argentina today after spending a grand total of 15 hours in a bus over the course of the past two days. We left Tarija early yesterday morning, after sleeping at a nearly abandoned hostal where we were placed alone on the fourth floor of the building (needless to say that we made sure to create a sturdy security barrier for ourselves by piling our backpacks behind the door and bolting it shut. (As a sidenote, Tarija is also the small town where the final scenes o...

... where they were building rockwalls by the banks, presumably to prevent the flooding of the road when the rains come. It was the perfect ending to four days of spectacular scenery and diverse landscapes. Thanks for the tip Andy. We got into Salta around dinner and collapsed. This town is hot. Really hot. We dropped off some laundry, ate at the hostel, and crashed very quickly thereafter, exhausted from the sights and bumps of the Salta Eight.
