Hocking and spitting!

Sara:

...Seriously people think it is acceptable to hock up disgusting things and spit all over the floor, wether that be in the street, a cafe, bus, or train, people spit everywhere here!

We got here after a horrific 10 hour bus journey, it is very hot, about 33 degrees.

The bus seemed to have a problem with its suspension, and we were sitting over the back wheels going up, down and around rocky mountains. We ...

Hi - 17/8 Arrival at Kaili
We are in China!
We had spent 30 hours of 3 flights - all good, specially Air Uzbekistan, then a bus to Guanyang - a big city, 1.2 million people: a modern place, 20-30 stories buildigs, wide road, full of new cars and well-dressed people. The streets look so clean, quite. Lotteries on streets!
We took the bus to Kaili - 2.5 hours, new road (you pay for passing it).
Kaili is a Miao city - looks ...

... barps' and we were off on a hair-raising ride through the rush hour traffic including a u-turn generating the loudest response yet. Somehow we arrived at the hotel having just lost sight of the taxi, but luckily we spotted Helen on the footpath waving her piece of paper at us, and not a scratch on the truck. A close one but we are now in a nice newish bright and clean pub, on the 16th floor, laughing at the cacophony below. It is chaos out there and we are off for a bite.

... much manipulation and a positive outcome is not guaranteed". "It would do no harm to the image of the local government," he said, comparing her with former US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who he described as "beauty meeting politics". Professor Xia Xueluan, from the department of sociology and anthropology at Peking University, disagreed. He said that pictures of a civil servant circulated online in the name of beauty is "inappropriate". Xia suggested that tourists ...

Bye bye Guizhou

... Not much more to see here, so we decide to go back to Guiyang for some lunch. After that, a visit to the Hongfu Temple, on top of a hill in Qianling Park. Another silly visit to a budist temple. They're all the same: sculptures, incense burners... Once you've seen one, it is nonsense to visit others. Go back to Guiyang center for last visit in the province, the Jiaxiu Pavilion. A small building in the middle of the river, with nothing ...

... bridges and climbing up Lingshan, which apparently means "Unicorn Mountain." We also had a bit to eat as there were vendors selling small grilled fish from the lake, and another selling savoury tofu-fa. After a couple of hours we found an area where the a local group gathered to sing Beijing Opera songs, accompanied by two Chinese "violins" - one with a cylindrical base and one with a hexagonal base. We thought they were erhus, but an elderly man who spoke English ...

On train to Guiyang

Tuesday, November 8th. We woke up at 7:30am and got onto the bus and drove about two hours south of Guiyang. The scenery on the drive was really pretty. There are rolling green mountains with terraced rice patties carved into the sides of them. We arrived at our destination, a small village called Raorao on the outskirts of the Gaopo Township. The village is inhabited by the Buyi ethnic group. We all tumbled out of the busses and stood around as we were divided into groups of 4 ...
