Onto Blighty!

All too soon it was time to move on from France. An interminable queue for RER tickets at Disney Station was followed by a mad dash to Gare du Nord to catch the Eurostar. The trip was uneventful (fast trains are definitely the way to travel in Europe). It was a relief to all that the hostel was virtually across the road from St Pancras Station as our bags are getting heavier. The hostel was functional, we had our own bathroom and best of all, it was close to transport. Once again the bunks we...

Day 1: Arrival and 1st day in London

London Gatwick Airport - I have finally made it after a gruelling 7 hour flight with really bad airline food and a snoring seatmate (it's Air Transat - what do you expect??) Gatwick wasn't as modern, clean, or organized as I have expected a major European airport to be. At customs, I ended up at one of several lines (queues) for "Returning E.U. Residents." I was unaware of this till it was my turn 30 minutes later when the customs officer redirected me to the only line tucked away at a corner...

Ah, London

Ah, London. This being my first time here, I am completely blown away. But before you make some cheeky remark about that, let me remind the audience I've lived in towns of 10, 20 and 60 thousand only. I won't be spending much time here, I've already booked a train to Stirling, Scotland for tomorrow, but I had to get out and walk around a bit. The trip here officially started on Monday morning with an 8am bus to Hanford from San Luis Obispo, and other than the occasional snore and baby cry, it...

... for its place in a digital world. Anyway it, and the other work we saw, was fabulous!!

The Tate was suceeded by what is certain to be one of the higlights of the trip...afternoon tea at The Ritz. Though a bit pretentious, it was an amazing experience. Kate wore a dazzaling dress, and I a traditional suit. We rushed across town on the Tube and hopped a quick taxi to arrive just past our reservation time. The opulent setting was a true ...

London Days 3 and 4

... filling him in on everything that has happened since he moved here, i then fell asleep the whole rest of the way! But I'm sure the scenery was very nice and it was a beautiful sunny day.
Anyway Stonehenge is exactly what you think its going to be.. except being in England, I always had it in my head with a dark and stormy sky as backdrop :) They dont let you get too close but we had these audio guides to listen to that tell you all the ...

Finally in London.....but missing something

... Connect.. A reasonable cheap way to get from the airport into town with a view.. James started the vacation off well by hitting on the first pretty lady he saw.. :) From Cornwall of all places.. Cornwall, UK.. :) From there we hit Paddington station to wait for my mother who was going to land in about 4 hours.. We decided to go out for a walk and hit the first place we could find for some food. We had found a nice resturant that ...

Flight QF030 to Hong Kong

... Mr Bean, Little Britain and The Bucket List film and also snuck out a few silent air biscuits! It's amazing how you can get away with these on a plane! It was my birthday during the flight, but alas, I did not receive my Mile High Birthday Present that I had been whimpering on about for the previous six hours, so I left the stewardesses alone and went and sat back with the Wife! All in all though, a most satisfying flight.

A Hillbilly in the Eurostar

... and the rain left a rather humbled feeling. But it is the kind of tristesse not unfamiliar to Paris when the water pours down the cobbled streets. For being in central Paris it was surprisingly dead. Even the hotel I stayed in was already dark. I didn't see the ward who fortunately called me out of the rain. What a relieving moment when I received the key and even my second company shirt that my colleague Kirsti had left for me. I pretty much fell in love with the hotel ...

... with the spare parts showed there are downsides to a small population in service facilities. Cook Islands were everything you imagine a tropical island should be, but I saw behind the sand and palms the kind of development pressures they have. I have included just a few photos from our four week journey. It is place we would both like to go back to.

The Hospital Diaries - Part 2

... The more things change, the more things stay the same. As usual, I was given the old blood pressure, temperature and blood sugar level check. High/low/high. A nuero doctor from Delhi came to visit me this morning. He explained that the MRI results have not come back yet, but he said he would chase. I told him that the drugs don't work and I would like something stronger. Wouldn't we all !!! Once again I was asked if there was any possibility if I could have aids. Do ...
