Auckland City, New Zealand chrisfish81After dropping Ann and Pat at the ferry terminal, we made a straight run to New Plymouth. Here we stopped at the local i-Site and collected some information on Mount Taranaki for the next day, and also decided to watch a video on the city. This turned out to be a sickeningly positive introduction to the city; we even learned that the mayor (of 'Awesome Town' as his t-shirt proclaimed) regularly jogged along the coastal boardwalk that had recently been created. We found a campsite right on the...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand nick.maynardArrived in Auckland after a long stint travelling from Mexico to New Zealand via the USA (left Cancun, Mexico Sunday morning and landed in Auckland Tuesday morning). So for the first few days I was slightly jet lagged. For the first 5 days, I spent it in the YHA International hostel. A very clean hostel but had no atmosphere, but was ideal for catching up on sleep and get my self organise. One of my things on my to-do list was apply for an IRD (Inland Revenue Department) Number so I can start...
Auckland, New Zealand sd0744Well, last night I slept great... but for some strange left hand side of the road driving dreams. Staying in a mixed dorm room here is a little bit strange.. but the people are quiet, and polite. Yaping House is a bit.. not run down.. but could use a bit of fixing up. Not that I'm complaining... some of the company housing I've stayed in for my former employer...*shudders*... there aren't even any squirrels. Auckland is incredibly lush and green, but according to the locals, is fairly average...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand vortecsDid I say before that the people here were polite? Oops. A couple of guys got in a bit of a tussle here last night... alcohol may have been a factor. Prices are weird here. Some things, like my bike, are normally priced, so if your dollar is higher valued you get a pretty good deal. But other things, like outdoor clothes are retardedly priced. I recommend buying that sort of thing before you leave. The cheapest rain jacket I could find was 65 NZ dollars, and they averagely run around 180. So ...

... The view was amazing and you could see so far. Apparently it is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. Along the viewing platform there were glass panels on the floor this was freaky. We then headed for a walk around town. Later on we ventured out for some dinner and man it was cold. After dinner we returned to our room and relaxed

Auckland, North Island, New Zealand dzinergirl... pieces I'd been craving for months! That and my survival pack from Mum which contained essentials such as Marmite and Irish Cadburys and of course some Barry's tea bags set me up to endure any hardships New Zealand could possibly have thrown at me! Auckland wasn't a whole bundle of fun and so after a little jet lag recovery time and catching up with a friend from Ecuador myself and Gisele headed to Waiheke island for the day to experience a little ...
Auckland, New Zealand ciaradoonerush... door for me. He's from the UK and we chat for a bit, he also very kindly offers me a cup of tea - I hadn't drunk proper tea for 6 weeks and so I drink every sip of it as if it was a the most delicious drink I had ever drunk!!! :o)) I hang out in the living room until 9am and meet the landlord, get my room key and put all my stuff in the room.... this hostel is quite small (max 25 people I think) and is really really friendly and quite a few people my age or round my age ...
Auckland, North Island, New Zealand kikiblogtrot... to cheer me up. I spent an afternoon in Auckland Zoo, which was really good with a wide range of animals to see in decent enclosures. The best bit though was seeing two small tiger cubs, they were very cute. Another day I took the ferry across to the North Shore, to Devonport and walked up Mt Victoria to see the great views of Auckland.
