Hi there, We did manage to get out of Datong, although we were a bit worried we would be stuck there for a couple of days as there was no train tickets and no direct buses for saturday. They have free pick up from the train station which is very nice to have when you arrive at 6 am. Rooms are clean, with traditional beds and the staff is friendly. Good location and good price!

A comfortable place to stay. staff very pleasant even though I was disappointed that my booking for day tour did not materialize. Due to this problem I did not get to see Wang's Courtyard or the Castle Tunnels.
Room clean - shower good - bed comfortable - coffee good.

Yamen is a lovely little place. The room I stayed in was basic but it had a very good oldy-worldy feel to it that was nicer than modern furnishings. They have great communal areas, internet, pool table, football table etc. Just a shame that Pingyao itself isn't much good. If you have been to Lijiang then avoid Pingyao.
DO NOT EAT AT THE FOOD PLACE DIRECTLY OPPOSITE FROM YAMEN. I did and got food poisioning so please avoid!
