7th to 10th Feb Final countdown.. From Thurs to Saturday we were in Ushuaia - it is called "The End of the World" - unless you are going to Antartica!! This is a big city and is the provincial capital of Argentina. It is the hub of tourism for Tierra del Fuego and the starting place for all the boats departing to the Antartic. Ferdinand Magellan found these straits connecting Argentina with Chile and the Atlantic with the Pacific in 1520 - hence, The Magellan Strait. We had a boat ride throug...
Ushuaia, Argentina siestabrigid... of different vessels that were important in the region. There are 24 of these starting with Magellan's Trindad (1520) and ranging through 24 others such as the Beagle up to the Fram and Discovery from 1911. In addition to the models they also had very good write ups in English. Next on we came to a display, with photos and models and a few actual items, covering the exploration of Antarctica. Once again also with good English write ups. Finally we also saw the prison ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina mikeandmary... delicious, and about $12).
The main reason we were there was Iguazu Falls. Has anyone reading this been there before? Seriously, if you enjoy outdoor, nature, waterfalls, Yosemite, Yellowstone, anything like any of that, you will love Iguazu. It beats any waterfalls I have ever seen before hands down. I think generally it is named as one of the 3 most spectacular falls in the world (along with Niagara and Victoria). It was used in the movie the Mission if anyone remembers it ...
... along the way in bolivia or Peru.
We took a Boat trip out into the bay but unfortunately we didnt see penguins as it was out of season for them. We still got to see some sealions and seals and it was really good to relax after a day of hiking.
Had a great time in Ushuaia and would recommend it to anyone. On we went to get our bus at 5.30 am. An 18 hour journey lay ahead or so we tought! Bob Marley said his goodbyes to the Irish Brothers!
... or passport or anything like that on me thank god.. I did however have this really nice lip balm which I miss.. and he scored some mints..) Anyway, after giving him my purse I thought that it would be over, however he then kept locking the door on me and putting his hand on my leg.. BIG mistake on his behalf. I was hitting him away and screamed which threw him off and I quickly unlocked the car and jumped out as he was trying to pull away. After getting out I was really ...
Ushuaia, Argentina flipisme... coastline is charted, so the captain and crew have to rely greatly on skill and observation to avoid mishaps, though they still happen: the ship I would have sailed on, had I done this trip last year, as planned, sank, while the Ushuaia, on which I am now sailing, ran aground on rocks near here just a few months ago, resulting in an emergency evacuation. I had quite fancied the adventure of an ...
Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina fishtails04... some of the chairs had bubbles that one could pull down, clearly sign of high winds, or lots of heavy snows, we surmised.
We continued on, over Garibaldi Pass, to where we had vistas of the lakes below. They are long and narrow, stretched perpendicular to each other, shimmering silver amongst the tall brown peaks around. Descending into the valley, we saw a small town with a lumber mill and an old house, made with timber, German style. The area around the lakes was ...
... Fatty.] Cruising has been an interesting experience but not one I will repeat for many years. I can see the attraction for many but personally its just too *******n easy! Also you don't really get to spend to much time in each place so it really feels like 'ticking off' destinations rather than actually seeing them properly. Cruise highlights include:- Saunas Detox Seminars Eating sh*tloads ...

Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina rogersusieq... 30 with a light dusk for another hour or so. Then dusk sets in again around 4 am ish and the sun rises around five. Port Williams across the channel in Chile is more south but it is more of a military outpost than a city so Ushuaia is regarded by most as the southernmost city in the world. The backdrop is awesome with mountains all around except the Beagle channel, but there is nowhere to see it and enjoy it L There is a bunch of tourists, but fortunately many ...
