Great location, lovely staff great cooking facilities and the rooms were good with good shower facilities. The hostel is in a great location but the hill leading upto the hostel is a killer

Auckland YHA - OK but not great

I stayed here for one night before starting my trip around NZ. Upon arrival I was lucky to have a driver that was willing to wait with me while the door was answered (I arrived after 11) because it turned out the hostel in the middle of a red light district. If you are a girl staying here by yourself, going outside, after dark, alone is intimidating. It was fine for what it was, a one night stopover but upon my return to Auckland, I opted to stay in Nomads off Queen St.

Our final full day in this beautiful country and lovely city! The only thing we wanted to do was to see the whole of Auckland and to remember the best time of our lives over the last five weeks. It was a beautiful sunny day so we headed to the Sky Tower to take in all of the views. As everyone is aware, Colm is not the best with heights but since …

Today's journey would pretty much be like the Wellington to Taupo drive. A six hour journey which was mainly about driving and not too many stops. It was our final bus journey into Auckland and it was hitting us hard that our kiwi experience was nearly up.

We drove for an hour to Rotorua in which we had a pit stop of forty five minutes. …

We said goodbye to Australia and a three and a half hour plane ride later, we were sailing across New Zealand waiting to land. We saw some breathtaking views from the plane and we knew we were going to love this country. We were now thirteen hours ahead of British time and another time difference to wrap our heads around. However, it was only for …

My Australian friend and I lazed about most of the morning, relaxing from our previous day's effort. Around 10:30 we headed out on the road towards Auckland. Around lunch time we stopped at a thermally active area near the city of Taupo called "Craters of the Moon". It's basically a bunch of steam coming out of the rocky ground due to a nearby …
