Worldwide Backpackers Wellington

So, nach 1,5stuendiger Zugfahrt bin ich in Wellington angekommen. Am Bahnhof habe ich gleich zwei Franzosen kennengelernt, die ins gleiche Hostel wollten wie ich. Nach halbstuendigem Marsch haben wir uns ueberlegt, naechstes Mal doch den Bus zu nehmen =) Es ging naemlich auch noch ziemlich den Berg hoch, und das mit soviel Gepaeck. Mit David und Guillaume habe ich dann auch den Rest des Tages verbracht, wir sind Cable Car gefahren und dann durch den Botanic Garden wieder nach Wellington zurue...

Na een ritje met de bus kwam ik aan bij de ferry. Dit keer had ik voor een andere goedkopere) maatschappij gekozen. Het schip was ook wat kleiner, overzichtelijker.
Om 7.00 's avonds verlieten ik de kust van Picton en voer de boot langzaam langs de fjorden van de Queen Charlotte. Het was een erg heldere avond en de zonsondergang in Cook Strait was dan ook erg, erg mooi. Amanda: We took a LONG bus ride from Taupo to Wellington. Since there isn't really a national train service, the coach lines are pretty extensive. However, big surprise, the bus ran about an hour late coming into Taupo. oh well. Wellington has a cool artsy vibe. It's very hilly and very windy! Tues 13th May - We were up at 5am to catch the flight to Wellington to begin our tour of the North Island so today has been a pretty long day. After our time in prison we headed for Wellington. Checked out the gigantic and high quality Te Papa Tongarewa history museum. You could wander for days or weeks inside this one museum and never fully digest it all. That said, in the time I did spend in there I wander between art, cultural, natural and historical exhibits of my choosing and relished them all. After a wonderful week "at home" with the family I decided to become a bit more adventurous and so on monday bought a very expensive (but well worth it) ferry ticket to the South Island. Got up early to hitch to Picton, I was gonna try and do another walk in the area as i'd previously done part of the Queen Charlotte track about 7 weeks ago. Got picked up almost immediately by Greta, a substitute teacher from Picton so managed to get all the way in one hitch. A complete result. July 25th Today we drove from Taupo to wellington. We left at 10 and arrived at 4:30 in the afternoon. The high way is very good and we were lucky it wasn't closed today. it's pritty straight and I watched as the town turned into tundra and the sheep disappeared.
