Bolivia

Hej allesammen.

The Inka Trail

Hello Again, From Cusco we took the 4 day, 3 night Inka trail through the Andean mountains and on to Machu Picchu, the huge Inka ruin site. When we first started off we were introduced to the porters (the poor guys that carry all the food, cooking equipment, gas bottles tables, chairs, tents etc, and our bags on the same trail as us). One of the, was called Jesus, and our guide called him Jesus Christ, and introduced Damien to him as the Anti Christ! The tents were fine on the trail, but the ...

day 17- La Paz

bus ride wasn´t as bad as expected. Unfortunately in this case arriving early was actually kinda bad since I got in at 5 something AM and couldn´t check in until 11. Thankfully the late shift guy was really nice and allowed me to use the internet (got caught up on photos) and shower (1st in 36 hours) and have breakfast (worldwide hostal special of bread, jam, and nescafe). But then I got an early start. La Paz is absoutely stunning! Like Porosi, it also is super high (12000 ft) but a big city...

Day 18- La Paz Death ride

I did the ´famous´Death Road bike ride today. had to wake up at 6:15 which was rough since this town is party central. i had to fight to get to bed by 2a so obviously wasn´t feeling great to start. Rather than me describe it, i´ll let you read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yungas_Roa d and see the pictures. Suffice to say, i lived, unlike a british dude last week. In retrospect I probably shouldn´t have chosen the bargain tour operator as the bikes weren´t in the best shape, but hey, it´s boli...

day 24- back in la paz

so, tried to change my flight and couldn´t. Staying tonight in La Paz, again at Wild Rover, again not going to Ram Jam club tonight (or any other outrageous la paz club dancing until 9a). I am leaving on a bus to Cuzco, Peru tomorrow. My super nice travel agency here, worked way too ******* my behalf to make this all work. Still no shower, still no sleep, but I will hopefully be in Cuzco tomorrow pm to book some Machu Pichu adventure before quickly getting to Lima to fly out on friday. otherw...

La Paz and the Most dangerous Road in the World

Got into La Paz and checked into the hostel. Went out to the witches market. The city is steep. I thought Bradford was bad for hills, but this place takes some beating! The market itself is pretty wierd. Lots of potions and dried laama foetuses for sale. Picked up some souvenirs and got myself some of the Bolivian pants that everyone seems to wear. Got back to the hostel and went to the bar. Allegedly the highest irish bar in the world.

Had a stroll around town the next day and booke...

Having fun in the Bolivian capital

Blinding.....Loved La Paz, it's the nuts! We found a hostel that had only just opened called Wild Rover and they were doing an opening offer of $1 a night + they boasted the best beds in La Paz (and they we're dam right!) so we took a few people from the bus with us inc. two lovely girls from Canada land, Trish & Tash (formally both addressed as Trash) We arrived a day before Eamonn and just had dinner and a few beers in the hostel in preparation for what laid a head. Now there's a saying... ...

A trip to the salt flats

It was finally time to take a break from La Paz so me, Elliot, Eamonn, Tasha and Trish headed down on an overnight bus to Uyuni to do a 3 day tour of the Salt Flats. A tip for anyone thinking of doing this, don't book in La Paz, wait until you get to Uyuni, we paid $20US less each that way. As it was 6 to a jeep, a guy Ronen joined us then we set off for 3 days of sightseeing. The photos tell a better story about the sights than we could. We arrived back in time for an amazing pizza (from Piz...

La Paz (again!)

Arriving back into La Paz was a bit of a shock, the cold and the altitude was definitely going to take some getting used to again. After getting a cab from the airport with another random couple also staying at Wild Rover, we arrived to find our reservation had been wiped off the system (even though we called to confirm that morning) and there were only 2 dorm beds in seperate rooms. Felicity immediately kicked off and 15 minutes later we were together in a 6 bed dorm for the night. After dro...

Casting Votes in the Highest Capital in the World

... around in groups leaning on their riot shields and chatting, but we couldn´t work out why they were there . at all. And then we heard shouting and I got up hopes that maybe there would be a riot, after all! But the protestors we saw, when we followed the disturbance, were all very well behaved. Standing in a huge group in the centre of a main road, they looked like ...
