Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico aventuraMerida, Chichun Itza, Tulum: THINGS WE LEARNED: Oh boy, what didn't we learn? 1. Always always ask to see your room before you sign for it. 2. Listen to advice from fellow travelers. 3. When life gets you down, there is always a solution and a really cheap 6 pack of beer. 4. The lonely planet is to be used as a guide only, but can not be trusted entirely! INTERESTING FACT: Cenotes (sen-note-ays) are limestone sinkholes filled with rainwater or fed by underground rivers. They were the major so...

My final night in Merida proved to be one of the best so far as the 2 Austran girls Bettina and Nadine had met some locals and we landed up going to a bar with them. We sat out in an open air courtyard and listened to tunes and chatted with the locals, one of whom was insistent on telling some truly awful jokes but was a really good night overall.
The following morning I took the bus to Uxmal to see the ruins there. There were quite impressive and in a really nice setting b...
Well i have successfully navigated the first few days of my trip. Isla was a great four days and i made some amazing new friends in Casey(Chicago) and Stephanie (Montreal). Right now I am in Tulum, Mexico famous for its Mayan ruins on the beach, cenotes, and beach. However it rained last night so we stayed and had some drinks at the "Weary Traveler Hostel" where Casey and I are staying in Tulum. It has also been raining this morning so we shall see if we go to the beach or ruins, welcome to t...
Tulum, Mexico gbendeck"Si, just put your neck in the rope and I'll lower you down to the cenotes." Loco our tour guide had led us into the jungle on the back of a converted limousine. The contraption ran with an exposed motor, and we looked, standing up in the back, as if we were riding on the back of a long tractor. "I don't think i can do that, is there someone down there?" All six of us, five Americans and a Brit, stare down into the hole and don't see the bottom. The six foot wide hole is pitch black, a tripod...

Tulum, Mexico hedczechI started my trip and went straight to Telum as recomended by friends who I had previously travelled in Central America. On the way down i passed through Praya de Carmen and spent the day there. In Telum I discovered the ruins, checked out the Cenotes and went to the beach and read.
Telum, Mexico itenerant78KATIE: We arrived in Cancun, Mexico from Dallas on 2nd Jan. We took the bus straight to Playa Del Carmen just south. This is an ok town it has long stretches of beach and the caribbean sea is amazing but the town is really touristy, mostly from the US and Canada who are escaping the harsh winters. I kept wondering what they must look like when they return to -10 degree temperature with their deep tans and hair all braided with beads! Unfortunatly I got sick so we ended up having to stay for a...
