Day 4 - 27/05

The weather in Rio had been mixed at best up to this point so with the forecast of a good day we decided to do a tour to see all the bits we wanted to see in one day.
The tour was running on Brazilian time so was about 40 minutes (5 Brazilian minutes) late …

Day 3 - 26/05

We were keen to try so see more of the real Rio so we booked to go on a tour of Santa Marta favela (it's not recommended to enter favela's on your own, despite progress made under the pacification programme).
Over 10 million people in Brazil are believed to live in over a …

Day 1 - 24/05

This will probably be our most disjointed blog so far, but that is quite fitting for Rio. There is a lot to love about Rio, but equally there are a lot of issues. The first of these we encountered on our first day here.
But firstly, let's update our movement's. We checked out of our hotel and got a …

Map trickery

Don't worry, you haven't gone mad. We're still in Greece. If you've been good blogees and been keeping up with the blogs you would know that this is an experiment to see if I can confuse the map. Yesterday we had good intentions of going down to Mycenae. However that was sidelined when Oscar woke up feeling unwell. Given that we have to travel in …

Cinematic landscapes, sunshine & loco people, good loco in most cases...

We stayed in Copacabana beach as the recommended Ipanema was WAY too overpriced, my goodness we realised just how expensive Rio was! I mean it's more expensive than LONDON!

I think that the staff here are the most helpful out of any hostel I have ever stayed at. The rooms and everything else is nothing special. It is basically a standard hostel with amazing people. The location is also great. It was nice to walk to the beach and to be able to walk to the metro and bus stops.

I´ve stayed in many hostels around the world and this is up there in the top 5. The hostel staff are wonderful in every way and more than welcoming on arrival. The breakfasts are decent and included, and while the rooms may seem small at first, theyre actually very clean, quiet and perfect temperature. The day tours that all the hostels in Rio organise are well worth your time. You feel at home and thats the best compliment I can give. (our friends from the other hostels continually ditch their hostels to spend time in ours!)
