Hallo!

Escape in Sydney
Jan 30, 2008 (48 photos)

We made an escape from Melbourne, taking an overnight train to Sydney. It was a 12 hour voyage, actually went pretty quick. We tried to sleep as much as we could, but you know how that is in trains and airplanes. We arrived at Sydney Central train station around 8 am, and to our surprise, our hostel was across the street. This being the most con...

'sniff sniff' yes I am crying... I can't believe that we are out of time here. It seems like only yesterday that we landed in Australia. But really it has been 66 days.. .66 days jam packed full of awesomeness. And we only scratched the surface of this enormous country. I think another 300 days would work quite nicely. I was thinking back on our...

Hi So sorry I haven't written in such a long time but I have been really busy doing nothing all day and just generally having an awesome time out here. As it has been such a long time I am not going to bother writing everything in detail as you will all be bored to death by it but here is a breif outline of what i have been doing. From Noosa we ...

Hi! I have been in Sydney a week and a half now and have been having a really good time. Tuesday I went over to Bondi which was really nice to see but really over hyped (i think anyway!) - It is just another beach!! Every wednesday the hostel has a walking tour of the city which was really interesting and a great way to meet new people. We went ...

Sydney (again)
Apr 24, 2008

Hi there! Im back in Sydney at the airport this time just about to fly off to New Zealand. Had a great last few days although the weather was terrible! The Blue Mountains were spectacular and we managed to see pretty much everything once the fog cleared. It is really sad to leave Austrralia as I have had so much fun in the last 2 1/2 months - th...

I will begin by apologising for the blog title. I am more than aware that it is shocking. But how could I resist?! Plodding on... Our time in Sydney was limited (both chronologically and financially) and we acted appropriately. We stayed in 'Wake Up!' an overpriced city central hostel. Which, other than it's city central location, had few good q...

Day 14: This was a travel day between Singapore and Sydney. Janell had been a little nervous about flying Gulf Air because she'd never heard of it, but it was just fine...other than the fact that we baked on the runway for about 30 minutes before they finally turned the air on. Nice way to start the day. After we checked into the hotel in Sydney...

Sydney so far

G'day from Sydney! I just got here a couple days ago and have just now gotten my bearings. I spent the first two days familiarizing myself with the city layout. Its much bigger than Auckland or Wellington, so it was a bit of an adjustment. (People love Sydney - and for good reason - but unlike the cities in New Zealand, Sydney feels like a city,...

More on Sydney
May 2, 2008

My time in Sydney, and Australia, is coming to an end. Tonight I hop an overnight flight to Hong Kong which will start the Asian part of my trip. Before that, just a few more comments on Sydney... Its not my favorite place that I've been, but I have enjoyed my time here. I think part of why I am somewhat neutral on Sydney is that it feels so muc...

I have found a good Internet cafe and have spent the last several hours uploading photos to Flickr. By the time I leave it should be pretty much up to date. The photo quality on Flickr is much better than Facebook, so I hope you enjoy the pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffrey_pe o (along the right side of the page should be albums you can c...

Hey all So Australia for us was a break from all our other travels and to just re-absorb western lifestyle. We went to see movies and ate steaks and fish and chips and spoke english to people that understood us. Compared to asia, the air is so clean and refreshing. We can actually see wonderful clouds and the landscape here reminds us of the wes...

back home... in Sydney!
May 21, 2008

The title says it all: Walking around the city still creates a really enjoyable 'back home' - feeling thats hard to describe and that's probably hard to understand for those people who didn't stay here for a longer time. (For the people that don't know it: I've studied here last yeat for about one semester.) There are still so many memories and ...

what i missed out last year
May 27, 2008

Unfortunately there were a couple of things, that I left out last year and wanted to do now. As it looks like now, 22 hours prior to departure, I will have to come back again ;) However, the hostel offered a free "guided" walk along the eastern beaches, from coogee to bondi. So did that, as one of the most famous walks the city has to offer. Unfo...

Ensimmäinen päivä Sydneyssä
May 17, 2008 (14 photos)

Ozzy adventures
Mar 23, 2008

We arrived at Melbourne Airport to glorious sun, which we were overjoyed about given the distinct lack of it in New Zealand for the last couple of weeks. We settled into our hostel in St Kilda (the student area of Melbourne) and went out exploring the area, which was lovely, very arty and cool. The next day we had to move to another hotel, as ou...

Sydney Part II

After the Blue Mountains I returned to Sydney for a few days. On Friday night I went to Moore Park to see the HSBC Waratahs (Sydney) vs Cheetahs (South Africa) in the Super 14 rugby competition. I was a bit concerned when the local team walked on to the pitch whilst Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" was played over the loudspeakers.... I was hopi...

Entry 11 of a trip titled: Sam's Round-The-World Gap Year Adventure

Over the next 103 days I will be travelling with Lotte around the World. First stop Cape Town, from where we will make our way up through Namibia and Botswana to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe on a 3-week overland camping safari. After this we will travel onto Australia and New Zealand, and then onto South America to see Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina and Brazil. That's the plan anyway. My aim is to try and update this blog frequently to keep you up to date with where we are, what we've done and how it has been. With a bit of luck I'll be able to put up some pictures and you can also leave comments for us to pick up and subscribe to receive email updates by clicking the links on the left. I hope you enjoy reading about our adventure...
