In the morning i said goodbye to my beautiful room and checked out at 10am, then went legging it down the road to find a cashpoint as I didn't have enough money to pay for my last few nights plus the taxi to the airport. This took bloody ages. Once back, I waited for a few minutes the got into the taxi with a bloke who works at the hostel and also does taxi rides to the airport. He was about my age and really friendly, and we had a nice chat about Buenos Aires for half an hour....
In the morning I was horrified to wake up at 7.30am and despite my tiredness find myself unable to get back to sleep, thanks to jetlag doing weird things to me. I lay there but sleep simply wasn't happening. Went for a shower, then decided to walk through Darling Harbour to Cockle Bay for breakfast. The weather was gloriously hot and sunny. Walking through Darling harbour, I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of my surroundings. The whole area is landscaped with a stream running through ...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia alastair6In the morning I had breakfast with Nicole in Side Bar again, this time opting for muesli and fresh fruit with yoghurt. As is now the pattern with the food here, it was bloody lovely. After this we made our way to the Aquarium, which is situated in Cockle Bay right next to Wildlife World. It was overcast for the first time since I'd arrived today, and there were also a lot less people around, so on the way I took the opportunity to get Nicole to take a photo of me down in the centre of this r...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia alastair6I got up fairly late today, owing to the combo of last night's revelries and jetlag. I hadn't realised at this stage that Side Bar did beautiful breakfasts, so I walked north up Pitt Street to a "restaurant" on the corner and, deciding that their breakfast selection looked okay, went inside. A chinese woman greeted me, then told me that breakfast was no longer being served as it was 11.35am, and it finished at half-past. Ridiculous. I couldn't be ***** to look for another option, however, and...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia alastair6In the morning I had breakfast with Nicole in Side Bar; in contrast to the previous day's hideous mess at the cafe round the corner, I'm pleased to report that my bacon and poached eggs on toast was nothing short of delightful. After we'd eaten we went to meet Laura and Nicky at Central, before heading off to Circular Quay on the subway. From here, we bought tickets to Manly ferry, and queued with hundred of people for the 12.30 ferry; to begin with we though we'd never get on, but luckily we...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia alastair6Today I had a massive full English breakfast in Side Bar with Nicole... it was beautiful. A South African girl who works behind the counter came over to collect my plate and quipped: "Wow, you really smashed that, bru!" This cracked me up. Afterwards I went to the nice internet place round the corner and did a marathon four hour session of blogging, booking a hostel in Bali (this involved a Skype call to a hostel recommended in my RG and a bloke on the other end of the phone who didn't really...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia alastair6 Wild kangaroos, bridge-climbing, a harbour cruise, surf camp and many more adventures awaited me in Sydney.
After a flight from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, 10 hours and many struggles in the San Francisco airport, a 13 hour flight to New Zealand, three hours in the Auckland airport and a three-hour flight to Sydney, I finally made it to Australia. Australia was my dream place. I think it was a sign when I was young, and my dad and I were driving down the highway in central Utah w...
Our hostel organized a group trip to some of Sydney's beaches. Here are some photos from my walk along the coast from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach.
Sydney is even better than I had anticipated. A beautiful city full of life, and lots to do. Megs and I did as much as we could considering the weather was ****** for the first two days, although the coolness was a nice way to wean myself into the Australian climate. We went to the Power House Museum which contains a lot on Australian culture, now and in the past. It also had a really interesting and hilarious Japanese fashion exhibit on. Unfortunately I don't have any photos to document thes...
