Trekking...for Dummies

... We didn´t spend long in Lima, and went straight to Ica / Huacachina where we paid actual money to be strapped to a dune buggy (roll cage with V8 attached) that launches you over sand dunes and, to quote a very drunk northern bloke that we found on a beach in Magaluf once, leaves you with "sand in places you didn´t know you had".

After the customary beers in Huacachina´s one bar, we caught a bus down to Nazca and flew ...

There is one that goes at 3AM (I don´t think so!!!!)

Will probabaly stay a few days here (well 2 nights!) to see what is going on. Will go into town and look at the photoes and see if this blasted canyon is worth visiting (If I can find a horse to visit it on as well that would bve great! Saves walking)
We took a tour with a funny Peruvian lady who told us lots of stuff about the monastery, the city and the country - well worth the expansive entry fee.

We managed to book flights to Cuzco from Lima next month as the nice buses take about 20 hrs and cost almost the same as ...

Vaya Con Dios - Peru

... partially to break through the confusion of where I want my life to go. But after seven months travelling and standing on more than one mountain summit I´m still no closer to acheiving that goal.

But I´m ok with that.

I´d prefer to be confused than be one of those holier than thou muppets who goes off on a journey of discovery and gives self-righteous advice to all their friends about what they´ve learned while they were away.

Next Stop: Adelaide, South Australia

... of the top of the walls to make it look as though they will add another floor, but of course they never do. Having said that the centre of Arequipa is beautiful with a huge central plaza and Cathedral, which leads you to the second big difference, the place is full of Gringo´s! There were a fair few in Chile, but this place is teeming with them!

The main reason for stopping here was to visit the Colca Canyon and a chance to see the legendary Andean Condor in it´s ...

More of Arequipa

... pictures. After a brief moment inside the church for some prayers, we asked for directions to the Sol de Mayo restaurant.

The restaurant was only a couple of blocks away from the plaza. It is tucked behind a tall dark red wall, and in a quaint colonial inspired (surprise!) structure, with a small courtyard in the middle, and a veranda all around it. We chose to dine al fresco at the courtyard-garden, right ...

... removed). We were starving after such a long day. We knew there must be a member od staff somewhere but we couldgo and knock on every door and disturb everyone. I found a leaflet for the place and called from my phone until someone appeared and then hung up promptly... calls from Peru are super expensive. He let us out and we told him we would return in an hour, which he said was fine. Luckily I took the leaflet with me as he was asleep again after we'd ...

A volcano, a mummy...and many yellow taxis

... hit her on the head with a star shaped stone which killed her. Her body was then left to freeze on the mountain curled up in a foetal position. Even though I accepted it was part of the Incan tradition and custom, I still found the whole story disturbing and very sad. What was going through Juanita’s mind as she walked from Cuzco to the top of mountain up to the point when she got hit in the head? Finally, at the end of the tour of the museum, we saw ...
