It's a hostel out of the way. Our first hostel, so we didn't have anything to compare it to. Looking back, it has a cosy and hippy vibe. Great breakfast and it's cheap!

FANTASTIC, quirky hostel in a great location

Couldn't be happier with this hostel! It's immaculate, in an excellent location (botofogo metro is just 3 minutes walk away) and the staff are very helpful, speaking excellent English. The shared spaces and rooms are rustically decorated and full of character. We stayed in a private room which we booked in advance and also ended up staying in a 15 bed dorm as we wanted to extend our stay, both were excellent. Lots if showers, great breakfast, good WiFi connection... what more could you want!?

Rio De Janeiro is a city I have long dreamt of visiting and was so excited arriving here on the first stop of our trip. Rio’s appeal for me was the diversity and the vibrant culture and this was something we were excited to experience. Getting from the airport to the hostel was first an experience in itself. It was late and we couldn’t …

    So we made it!!

After some severe "cramming" on the flight, we managed to digest enough of the lonely planet's advice on Rio de Janeiro to feel safe enough to take the bus from the airport to Botafogo, where our hostel was located. I thought i'd made it pretty clear to the driver to let us know when we got to Botafogo so we could get off, …

... amuse us for so long and we were drinking in a bar in no time with our new friends from the airport. The next day the rains subside and its an awesome day, we hit Copacabana beach to make some plans, best laid plans go to sh•t when they bring you cold beer and caiparinhas on the beach! We organised some stuff to do the following day and achieved little else other than getting drunk and sunburnt on the beach with some new friends. Finally we start hitting ...

... Sao Paulo's Tiete station to Rio after 6 weeks or so in Sao Paulo. As you enter the city from the highway, it looks pretty.. miserable. A lot of cities in Latin America are like this. City centers have wonderful buildings and landscaping, while slums cling around it. Rio is no different.

Rio is famous for its favelas and the sharp contrast between those areas and the pricy beach hotels and condos. The trendiest thing these days is actually not on ...
