... numb! During the ceremony, one of the islanders come over to give you a cup made from out of a coconut shell. You then yell “Bula“! And you down the entire cup, no sipping or tasting, but gulp it down! Then you yell “madda” (which means empty) and give the cup back. Both Nik and I tried it twice! We are staying in Bures, which are huts! They have the back to basic “bucket” showers and its cold… ...

Sigatoka, Viti Levu, Fiji spoonski... in & realised L.A. wasn't listed on the screen! I re-checked my ticket & definitely had the date right, but there was no flight. The airport seemed to be closing up & when I eventually found someone to help me, she informed me my flight had been cancelled back in February, but no one had bothered to tell me. After being told to sleep on a bench in the airport until the office opened in the morning, I kicked off a bit of a fuss & managed to get put up in the four star ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji dixie87... in fun activities. And every time, one of the Fijians cannot keep a straight face for some reason or other - bit like me really! The dorm is interesting with what looks like 20 children dorm beds and not one of the guys is able to sleep straight, ah the joys of being short...!Only downside to the beautiful island is the weather, somehow it is not sunny! So after two days it is off to the next island which is fantastic and they even served us spag bol for dinner! The meals in ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji beannie84... later though when he had assured himself that all that he would have to do was drink some beers. There were a couple of amazing thunderstorms the first couple of days, which were very exciting if a little unnerving bearing in mind we were on a teeny island in the middle of the pacific. Jamie was very reassuring though by explaining that it we did get washed away it would be ok as we could just turn our hut upside down and float around in it. The group of people staying on the island ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji jessjamie... to have stability in our lives again, make some sort of financial progress towards all the things we hope to aquire in life, and especially see friends and family again. the comfort of personal space isn't a luxury you have in a dorm room with 20 other people either. all in all i'm excited to go home and impliment all my life changes i've decided on during any of our countless hours of bus rides, flights, and ferry trips ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji tsquared... twenty-five to thirty minute journey to Lautoka, he drove like a maniac. Barely slowing long enough to allow passengers time to clamber aboard, he drove off with them running alongside the bus, desperately trying to swing themselves aboard before he picked up speed. Counting and folding money as he drove, occasionally swinging the bus back to the correct lane whenever he drifted onto the wrong side of the road and all the while shouting abuse at non ...
Nadi, Viti Levu, Fiji laurieslifeH of HI: After the market...we still needed to take a cab to Club Masa. We actually got the cab to come down a bit on his fare, so we felt pretty good about that after the market raping from before. But when we arrived at Club Masa, we said "Where is it?" He said "Go through there." We looked over at a big cattle gate, which we soon found out was locked. But there was a bar you could slide across and and scrouch down through the gate. As we ...
Sigatoka Sanddunes, Fiji hilivinFiji marked our first 'new' country, and it was obvious from shortly after landing that things were going to be very different. Hawaii has long since given up on the free traditional welcome, but in Nadi (pronounced 'Nandi' - there's an invisible n in front of the d) we got a splendid song of Fijian welcome, even though it was 5am. (presumably these guys are employed to sing to every planeload!) Having picked up our second type of dollar ...
Fiji, Western, Fiji heleng2Kia Ora from New Zealand, after an odyssey of 26 days we're here! In fact, the last leg from Fiji rather took it out of us, we're really glad that there are no more planes for two months. Auckland Airport was pack-jammed, as a result we missed our connection to Christchurch - fortunately Qantas are geared up for this and changed the ticket to the next flight, two hours later. We also got our boots cleaned for free; biosecurity is a big thing here.<br><br ...
