Late start

I am getting a late start on this whole travel blog thing. It's been a crazy first couple of weeks here in Malta. I flew out of Charleston Yeager airport on Wednesday, January 28th amidst wind and slush and snow flurries. We wanted to get to the airport early, so we left at around 8am, drove the hour and a half to Charleston, and hung out at the mall for a while. I got a quick haircut, since it hadn't been cut for about 5 months, and will probably be 5 more before I get it cut again. Then we ...

Notes on the University of Malta

After Sicily, schoolwork began to pick up, after about a month and a half of doing close to nothing for classes. My first assignment was for my Psychology of Sexuality class. We had to write a 1500 word essay on one of three topics then attend a tutorial and present your findings. My topic was concerning the similarities and differences between male and female sexuality from physical, psychological, and social/cultural perspectives. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, it took a while to get to t...

Oh yeah, school.

After returning from Paris, it seemed as if the school workload suddenly skyrocketed. I had a psychology paper to write and a tutorial to attend for that paper on Friday. I had already written the paper, but spent the week doing last minute alterations and reading for hours on end for my English classes. I also had to compile information for a presentation due shortly after spring break, so my group members could get working on putting all the info together into a powerpoint. Along with all t...

The end is near.

This is week is when I really started to realize how little time we have left here. I'm trying to stuff as much activity in as I can before I have to say goodbye.

Sunday Jessica and I went to Marsaxlokk to wander around and do some studying by the water. We also walked over to the other side of the bay and sat around for a little while on a tiny, sea shell covered beach. It was a long day, but we got a good bit of studying done.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I had exams. The...

Spectacular Malta

... We sat out on our balcony which looked upon the walls of the city and the quay. Bustling horse and carriages trotted smartly back and forth. The road going up the hill is steep, but these horses are strong and fit, pulling with little effort. They really fly.
We boarded our bus with no security issues( like aforementioned places) and started our tour. I know nothing of Malta, other than ...

A flying visit to say a quick goodbye

I've just popped over to Malta for a day & a bit (as you do!) to say a quick hello / goodbye to my parents (and bring them lots of goodies over for the last time in a while).

The weather is a little warmer than the UK, but not as warm as it's going to be in a week's time (ha ha ha).

Anyway, I'll keep this blog short so ciao for now!

The Costa Cruise Experience

... places we visited:

Savona

As it was raining and cold here, decided to spend the day aboard and relax and enjoy the fabulous view of the city from the 12th floor of the ship and teach the children how to play 500.

Barcelona

Walked from the ship into town, needed the exercise and didn’t want to pay the exorbitant cost of cruise transport. Hit the Paseo de Gracia (Main Street), so interesting and buzzing with ...

Adventures on a tiny island...

... Theresa's mom, and all three of us loved that one. I just have one thing to say... My wife, she makea this cheese... If you've seen it, you understand. Kirsten, Theresa's mom, invited us to a wonderful late Christmas breakfast. Smoked salmon, cheeses, meats, a Norwegian sesame bread... it was a real feast, and it made our Christmas day. Theresa and her sister Erika joined us for breakfast, having just woken up from the previous night's huge party ...

On to Barcelona

... tonight! The crowd loved her. They told Jeff he "came close" (riiiiight)... But we are all rooting for Caroline tonight, and we just know she's gonna win! Yesterday we toured Malta. What a beautiful place! We saw the cities of Vallarta and Mdina. The architecture is pale yellow, limestone-based with a lot of Moorish influence, colorful banners everywhere, quite striking. The churches are overflowing with Baroque detail. Our guide told us of a lot of the incredible ...
