      Goodbye Whistler

A travel blog entry by sophiecocker on Jan 09, 2015

... linn gate again! Finally comes to this morning, the 8th. Eventually I got round to doing my Mercedes video interview - what a nightmare!! Which unfortunately meant I didn't have time to get out and ski today but after an incredible day yesterday I wasn't too bothered. Now I'm sat on a 14 hour coach ride to Banff, Alberta on a bus that seems like a submarine and a nice you fellow playing Indian music from his mobile. Il check in again once we arrive at our hostel in ...

... is brutal. And by brutal I mean, it is so slow it is dead boring. I sit and drink coffee all day. Yes it's not a bad life, however when you have a job where you rely on tips, $9 an hour doesn't get you very far and neither does finishing early all the time because you are not needed. So in dead season spirit, I decided to bail on Whistler again and head to the island. I had only been back a week, but I've decided on one week on, 1 week off kind of roster. If I work a month, I get ...

After awhile the kids get to drive there own for awhile. Was a kick for us watching them have so much fun. They had an area to stick to, we were standing there watching them with ...

... humanly possible in the morning, including a sweet GS race track, some steep mogul fields and for Matt and I, a fated double black chute named Pokololo. It should really have been named Rock-alolo though, as the entrance was more rock climbing than skiing and my skis suffered a few too many gouges! Nonetheless, the bowl we dropped into was awesome: all the more so for the hard work we had put in to get there! In the afternoon, we met up with Troy and Jonny for ...

... was very welcoming. One of the girls we met at Cornucopia invited us around to her place and a few others for dinner. Kirsten is a Canadian and has lived in Whistler for a few years now and lives with two other Canadians working in the Whistler area. We met her in the Village as she has a car and was going to take us back to hers. Before we met Kirsten we had a bit of spare time in the village and stumbled upon a chaotic scene of sirens and flashing lights.
