Tropic Days is fantastic - beautiful gardens , spotlessly clean and extremely welcoming .

Funky, comfortable and clean with friendly staff. It was family friendly, and the BBQ was fantastic. A great pool to help keep cool. A little far from towm, but there was a free shuttle. A great place to stay.

This is the 1st hostel i've stayed in and I was pleasantly surprised with how extremely clean the bathrooms and kitchens are. The staff and guests are all really friendly and full of information to help book tours and transport etc. including free transport into town (it's a 20 minute walk). Free wifi and computer access, towels are provided as well as bed linen. The only negative thing I can think of is it has set my standards very high for the rest of the hostels I will stay in on my travels!

Aboriginal morning and flight back to Brissy

For us, going to Australia without meeting or learning about the aboriginals whom inhabited Australia for 60,000 years would be absurd, despite the amount of European East-coast travellers that do just that! Spurred on by enjoying the displays at Melbourne Museum, we have booked today to head to Tjapukai to meet the people of this mob, at their …

Feeling a day of adventure ahead, going tour-less, we rent a car from town bright and early with Elliot and Hannah, two other travellers from our hostel, and hit the road North! We pass Port Douglas, and later the ferry crossing to enter the Daintree rainforest region, which is one of the oldest rain forests in the world, surviving the ice ages due …

A day everyone looks forward to when in Cairns is a trip out to the Great Barrier Reef! Our tour is with Passions of Paradise, on a flush modern boat with a big sundeck at the front. We arrive at the reef after most of two hours sailing from Cairns, for our first dive of the day. We saw a White-Tipped Reef Shark and Moray Eel, amongst the world …

At 8am we are picked up by Barefoot for our tour of the Atherton Tablelands, which is an area of rainforest in the tropics that gets 5 times the country's average rainfall! The bus is full and we get chatting to a nice group of people, most of whom are just starting their travels, which helps to kill time of the drive out. Our first stop in the …

    Day out in Cairns

Starting to get a little bit better at sleeping on a bus with reclining seats as far as a barbers chair, all that extra energy is soon lost as we trek 30 minutes at 5.30am with our heavy luggage to our hostel, seemingly not in the main area. After check in and Nat's snoozing in a ridiculously soft bed in our deluxe room until late morning, we set …
