    Great Place to Stay!

This was a super cute repurposed older house hostel. I really enjoyed the whole atmosphere here with a clean kitchen, great lounge space, and ping pong tables and lots of space.

    Functional hostel

This is a very functional hostel. The living room has a sofa and 4 chairs plus a TV and a very, very warm fire. There are numerous dining tables and 2 computers. The kitchen is well equipped. The threat of video cameras watching your every move and eviction if you don't clean up after yourself means it was pretty tidy!

Our room was a double with shared bathroom. The room was an OK size with a small wardrobe. Sadly we could hear the couple next door talking at normal level. We were also next to the bathroom. There were signs up saying no showers after 10pm or before 7am and someone ignored it and got a shower at 6.30am.

We had considered Basil Hostel until we drove past and saw a Kiwi Experience bus outside and decided against it. We met friends who'd looked at it earlier and they said Tripinn was better.

For 1 night it was OK for us.

Very nice hostel with dog and cat and fire oven. Very much space and nice equipped facilities. Bike rental possible and nice beds. The shower is nice and not just like the normal showers. Not so crowded but if it is crowded there should be enough space for everybody...

Well, as luck would have it, Prince Charles was in town and visiting Westport, New Zealand the same day I was there! But the most shocking thing was definitely that the parade that afternoon wasn't for me...I guess its a royalty issue. So, the Westport that I met felt like a ghost town because nearly every shop on the main strip was shut down in …

Our next adventure took us to the small town of Westport. The town itself doesn't have much to offer. We had to stop there because the drive to our next stop (Franz Joseph) was too far away to do in one trip. Fortunately for us two exciting things were happening in Westport that week, one was the New Zealand army was there doing exercises, and …

The bus from the Tongariro National Park down to Wellington the day after walking the crossing was long. I don't actually know how long it took but because I was so tired and sore it seemed like the longest bus ride so far. We arrived in Wellington and I spent the rest of the day just relaxing with two of my roommates who I had met in Blue Duck, …

There isn't too much to report from our second South Island stop. The route we have driven today has taken us down the Buller River Gorge and over to the west coast, to a little town named Westport. Despite this being one of the wettest parts of the country, and where the locals are said to be a little bit 'different', the route along the river is …
