Helpful staff, good location and everything you need. However the only window in my room was over the smoking area, and they have long-term lodgers who work in local bars and disturb you at 4am...

11pm, and another Friday evening had finished on the Census Project. Off me and Adam set back to the Trek Global hostel; with a shift tomorrow, we had both planned on taking easy. But a stroll down Manner St blew it all out of the window!

Alarm went off at 8:50am and we had the sound of rain outside. Not great when we had a 15 minute walk to the bus!
Got our stuff together then went and checked-out.
Was only spitting with rain whilst we were walking, so we didn’t get too wet luckily. Got to the bus stop around 9:30am, the bus wasn’t due until about 9:50am. …

Today we flew from Newcastle to Wellington via Brisbane. We arrived at midnight when meant we got to the hostel at 1am. The hostel was called Trek Global and was comfortable for the night.

We rocked up on the first day for this 20km, 8 hour hike over two volcanoes in shorts, t shirts and trainers and were told that we were not only woefully under-prepared but also hours too late to tackle it.
