Tuesday I decided to put my faith in public transport for the final time but yet again it let me down as the airport bus didn't show and I had to get a taxi, costing me much more money. At least the flight to Johor Bahru was OK but getting from the airport to the bus terminal to Kuala Lumpar was another challenge - an expensive tourist bus into a bus station in town followed by another bus (luckily cheap) out of town to the main bus terminal. As soon as I got off I was hounded by a young lad ...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia amandaseimsarrival to KL after an ok night of sleep on the train. when we finally started moving, that is. didn't get stopped when we crossed the malay border though. where's my stamp on my pp?? not sure what was biting me last night. will definitely have to spray bug spray on me all day today. think singapore actually sprays the whole island or something. or maybe the slightly brown sheets on the train is telling me something... definitely not in SG anymore. not as friendly. ppl aren't as willing to he...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia maymay1980We got up early for our 5:45 am walk to the MRT (local train) -- about a 1-mile walk to the hostel. Once we got off the train, we walked about the same distance again to the train station. We could have taken a bus, but we enjoyed the walk despite our heavy packs. We grabbed a snack at a bakery for breakfast, and then had just enough time for a coffee at the train station, but our time was cut short when we learned we had to go through preliminary Malaysian Customs and Immigration at the Sing...

... an authentic seafood restaurant, and had these prawns that were fresh from the sea and tasted really good!
On Tuesday, we went to Disneyland, which was a lot smaller than others that I have been to, with only one park and three 'lands' within it. We had to take the subway all the way there with several changes, and it was quite exciting when we finally boarded the subway on the 'Disneyland Resort Line' with Mickey Mouse shaped windows and Disney memorabilia inside! We ...

After several days, we said our goodbyes to Sree, Toby, and Kuala Lumpur, and we were onto our next stop....Cameron Highlands. We took a bus on a very very windy road to the Cameron Highlands which are located half-way up the Malaysia peninsula in the mountains. Because the Highlands were at a higher altitude, for ...
... but we did get to spend one day in the park reading and drawing and soaking up the general peace and quiet! we visited the Petronas twin towers, the tallest building until 2004 which i have to say kinda takes your breath away. Unfortunately we didn't get to go up it because you have to queue from 7am to get tickets and they don't let any1 up on a monday...which was the day we decided to go! Got some great pics from the outside though, beside the Fountain and ...
Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia bridyfitz... Kit market, which is teeming with fake designer bags, sunglasses, watches and ties and every other item that is easily (but not well) duplicated. After surviving the gauntlet of "hello lady" people, we found an outdoor Chinese restaurant and enjoyed vegetarian spring rolls (staple of the trip as both of us can eat them and share), "spicy chicken noodles" for me and a tofu dish for Asia. A makeshift traveling cover band serenaded us with American hits while we ...
Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia seasiabound... favorite one was bold enough to walk up and grab a flowered lei off a young child’s neck. When the father tried to retrieve it, the monkey took offense and threw a punch at the guy. Comedy ensued. We kept our distance the rest of the way.
The caves were quite an impressive natural wonder, nearly matched by the multiple shower heads and marbled tiles in our room. Sorry – we have discovered we like creature comforts!
... our whole Malaysian trip I'd often pick up a bunch of the purple fruits and happily munch my way through them. While you can find mangosteens in North America, they're generally of significantly lower quality than those found in the fruit's home regions (they don't travel well, apparently), and I haven't had the heart to try any. Some things are just worth traveling for!
... the petronas towers illuminate. on day 3 it was time to tour the city via the hop-on hop-off buses. we went pretty much the loop before leora decided she wanted to do some outside walking, which of course meant she wanted to shop. we had an a la carte sushi picnic and followed that with some spending and walking until we hit up the central market again, and indulged in the cute fish spa. (that's when you dip your feet in a shallow tub and get ...
