Tokyo, Japan-Raves, crazy frog and David Beckham!

Well, five days gone and its seems like a day. Japan, Tokyo in particular is quite simply, amazing. Yeah I know everyone says that but to be fair, the people are, without a shadow of a doubt, the friendliest I've ever met. If you're lost, or just look lost, someone will ask if you need help, even the blokes digging up the road bow to you, its quite something else!! The flight was cool, now i know its been a while since I've been on a long haul flight but wow! Movie database, TV in the back of...

Tokyo

Monday I arrived into Tokyo at 9:30am still midnight back home it was difficult to adjust and couldnt check in to the hostel till 3pm. When i did get into the hostel i managed to get a few hours rest and took it easy for the rest of the day. The Tokyo hostel was good, i was the second person in a small dorm of 4 beds, by the morning it was full and strangely 3 of us were called David which made remembering names a lot easier :) Tuesday i went into Tokyo to explore... Akihabara district (elect...

Touchdown!

Happy to report a safe arrival in the land of the rising sun! Although the circumstances were less than auspicious (see entry below) it was exciting to have finally made it to a country I have looked forward to visiting for many years. Shame about the weather though. My original plan to travel on to Hiroshima after a brief sojourn in Tokyo being undermined by losing my passport (!), I spent the first few hours getting to know the train and metro system fairly intimately. I must also say that ...

Consumerism and unexpected couchsurfing

On my flight from Beijing to Tokyo, I sat next to Yang Ren, a 25-year-old Chinese girl who is in college in Tokyo. After talking for a while (her English was at a low intermediate level, so it wasn`t a very deep conversation as I had to use easy words and talk very slowly for her to understand me) she invited me to come stay with her the following night. Since she didn`t seem like a serial killer and hostels in Tokyo are quite expensive (averaging about $30 a night for a dorm bed), I accepted...

Konichiwa

Konichiwa family and friends,

Started off the month of July with a 13 hour airline flight from NJ to the capital of Japan. This is the least diverse city I've ever visited. Tourists stick out like a sore thumb, partly because of Andy's height [travel companion whom everyone stares at], mostly because of our skin/features, and also a mix between being two of the only people wearing sunglasses and sporting backpacks. Spent our first two days touring Northern and Western Tokyo. Northern ...

Tokyo A-Go-Go

I hate Subways. Not because of all the people or the fact that half the time my face is wedged into Tom's gross armpit but because here, in Tokyo, they are dramatically overheated. I don't think I've worked up a sweat that much, even in Australia, with my layers upon layers of clothes. In fact, everything here is dramatically overheated.

But moving on, I'm in Tokyo! After an excruciating flight on which I could not fall asleep to save my life, I was glad to find our Hostel tucked snugg...

Tokyo Tales

Bangkok to Tokyo was a five hour flight and we lost an additional 2 hours with the time change, but we arrived safely. We are excited for this last leg of our adventure as Wendy has never been to Tokyo and we have plans to get together with many friends. We had dinner last night with our friends Emi and Hissa at a izakaya, the Japanese equivalent of a pub with tapas-style food. We got to try a lot of new things and it was ...
