The Big Apple, just like the cider

Left London at 10 after the flight was delayed by and hour. Really boring considering I had run out of pounds and could only spend 10 mins on the net. Arrived in NYC after a 7 hour flight. Caught a shuttle in to Port authority which happens to be only 1 block from the hostel. Nice place, only small but clean and convienent. After settling in I decided to go for a stroll and get my bearings. Although I have been to NY before for 3 weeks, nearly 20 years ago, I was really excited to explore Ny ...

New York Day one

So the first day of cruising around NY. I thought the best thing to do was to get all the museums and gallery's out of the way. So I headed of to the International School of photography and was blown away by the exhibitions on show. I really haven't got any talent at all when it comes to photography, but really enjoyed the displays put on by 2 artists who travelled and documented on two eras of South and Central America. After that I made my way to the Museum of Modern Art. As you can see in ...

New York City Day 2

Well I woke with really aching feet, sore shoulders but like a warrior or a resilient Collingwood supporter I wanted to head on down to the Financial district. I had a coffee at Herald Square which is as big as a cricket pitch. Just happened to be there when the bells were a ringing. I caught the subway to the (Lower Manhattan) World Trade Centre to check out the damage. It's hard to imagine but the area is huge let alone two buildings plus more crashing down to earth. The rebuild is being cr...

New York 2004

A brief history of my time in New York, trying to keep this travel blog upto date with where I have been in the world. Even I forget where I have been and when. So New York - bars, shopping, Irish bars, tall buildings, Irish bars, McD2onalds and so on for 12 days. Oh and the New York Nicks and Phantom of the Opera were quite good too. Halloween was fantastic, more of a general reason to dress up rather than witches and white bed sheets thus my Superman outfit, Alis Spiderman outfit, Dans Jesu...

... park, wall street & the brooklyn bridge. it was really good way to see everything (even if it was a little misty) and gave me a chance to sit down for a while! since it had cleared up a bit i decided walk to the empire state building. the views from the top were really good, it must be fantastic on a clear day! i was able to see some more of the sights without walking to each of them! i walked back along 5th avenue, went into a few of ...

... Bridge' which had a stunning classic design and was immaculately maintained (check out the piccys - it's lovely). Visited my long lost cousin, Cushla, who lives in downtown Soho and I was suitably impressed by her loft apartment - simply stunning. Haven't set foot in a place that fancy for a long time (if ever??). Well, when you hang out with the likes of Richard Gere etc. you have to keep up appearances!

NYC...the 3rd visit

... will never forget it. I walked back to Chinatown because it was about 5pm, and found the location of the Ghostbusters Headquarters. So that was pretty cool. There were real firefighters in the fire station and i kinda hid from them as i took the picture in case they thought i was taking it of them :) I ended up getting really lost in Chinatown though, and finally after an hour found where i had to go, but it was so stressful, especially because everything is in Chinese and i was ...

USA - Route 66

... it did remind us of being back in work, not just because of the 2 afternoon drinks....(only joking employer types.) Our final stop before dropping the car back in Chicago was Normal, Illinois, which was well, normal! It probably matched our ideal of the traditional American family most accurately, and it was a lovely town of white picket fences and lots of parks and playgrounds., and massive houses with huge gardens on sale for about $250,000. Normal was decorated ...

New York Monday

... full, we headed right out the door and took the subway to downtown, where we viewed what was left of the Twin Towers. We all know what happened on 9/11, 2001. I was surprised at the number of people who died that day, whose names were being honorably shown to the public. The wreck of the World Trade Center wasn't entirely still there, however, because they were building a new building there that is supposed to be ...
