Første uge på UNC - Chapel Hill

What do you MEAN they're closed!!!

... it definitely wasn't all that great. And I even got the Business Class seat so I could have a table to myself to finish working on the design for a new project at work. The price wasn't that bad though, $77 for a one-way. That's less than the gas and tolls to get to the city, and one day of parking in Manhattan. The biggest problem was the schedule reliability. We left Saratoga 5 minutes late and we arrived in NYC 30min after our scheduled ...

MET

... Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is a seriously big museum. There is no way you could see it all in one day. Maurice tried to save money by buying a membership only for us to discover that you could get in for free. Some of it isn’t really art for differing reasons. The Egyptian exhibits whilst fascinating belong in a history museum with ‘Sarcophageses (correct collective noun?) and other artifacts which were not meant to be art. The other category is the ...

Epilogue

... everyday... but I will miss my regular breakfast and coffee, my access to lots of cheap fast food around and my occasional donut! I shall miss the bizarre election non-sense and presidential debate shows and of course my old friend the subway..... Oh and one last word... McCain or Obama? Well I say join the United Empire Loyalist movement and bring back the Crown! Obama will win of course..... and if he does he not we all better start building those nuclear bunkers in the back garden...

NYC...the 3rd visit

... to where the Brooklyn Bridge is and walked across it and back. I was so excited. Its the one bridge apart from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco that i'd wanted to see so it was great. It was more than i expected from a bridge, and there were people on bikes who like zipped past you on their side and people walking on the other, cars and taxis and trucks below on the lower part and just seeing this construction so old and famous was just too cool. It really was. I will ...

Spring Break...

... our time in NY was spent taking in the wealth of consumerism. We went to Time Square a couple times. We saw Mary Poppins on Broadway. We saw the empire state building, Ground zero, the statue of liberty (from the free ferry), rockefeller center, went to mass in St. Patrick's........ I decided I do not like NY and now understand why people from there are generally very mean. If I lived in a place like Manhattan with no ...

USA - Route 66

... which was a lovely drive through towns which are trading heartily on their route 66 association. We stayed in a casino resort, owned and operated by the native Americans of the region who have benefited from some government system that allows them to run casinos without paying much tax. The state law permits only beer to be sold on Sundays, and speaking of state laws: Arizona state law prohibits the return of thermal underwear; post purchase, and New York state ...
