Antigua has been good to us. Our hotel is perhaps the best we have stayed in yet on the trip. Perhaps, then we should tell you the name: Casa Amarillo/Yellow House. It doesn't look like much from the street, except one of any 100 or more travel agencies here in Antigua, but oh how looks can be deceiving. Inside, there are decorated (?!) rooms, a nice cool courtyard, a great balcony, and REAL HOT WATER in the bathrooms--no death-showerheads here! The hot water is solar heated, to boot, so you ...
Antigua, Guatemala andrewandjacque Yeah, another touristy one.
Pretty, colonial, full of extranjeros and the foreign owned business that cater to them.
Nothing to do there that you canīt do cheaper or better elsewhere, except Pacaya.
Pacaya was COOL. I doubt thereīs anywhere else where you can go and stand next to a river of lava (hell, you can step on it and burn your foot off - nobody would care). Slightly ruined by the hoards of tourists, but you can negate that by being up there first (most are fat with b...
Antigua and San Pedro THINGS WE LEARNED: 1. Just because you have a 'Guatemalan Expert' for a guide, doesn't mean it's safe! 2. Always add 2 hours to every bus ride INTERESTING FACT: Volcan Pacaya is 2552m high, and is a fully active volcano! It is interesting that we climbed it and THEN read the warnings about unexpected eruptions in Lonely Planet! THIS IS HOW CHEAP WE ARE: We have finished an entire jug of peanut butter and several loaves of bread in the last couple of weeks. THIS IS HOT! W...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala chadstephHere's my first entry from Central America. I arrived into Guatemala City on the evening of Monday the 14th. I met a few people on my way from England, including a guy called William from Northern Ireland who reliable informed me that we were in the presence of a gay porn star, whilst in the departure lounge at Heathrow! Ah, what fun. So,I stayed at Dos Lunas in Guatemala City and the people there were lovely, I recommend it. I took the collectivo type bus thing to Antigua yesterday at 11am. ...
Antigua, Guatemala didoblotHey guys! As the title of the blog suggests, I have just returned from the jungle...but more on that story later. First Iīll fill you in on what Iīve been doing since the last blog. I just had to read what my last blog says...I canīt believe how much Iīve done since I last wrote! So, I stayed in Antigua untilo Friday the 18th and then caught a collectivo bus to Lago de Atitlan. The ride there was great, amazing scenery. Once we arrived in Panajachel, Kate (somebody I met at the Yellow House i...
Coban, Guatemala didoblotArrived in the much calmer Antigua after short "chicken bus" trip from Guatemala City. Getting on the bus was quite funny and demonstrated I hadnt completely lost my paranoia about Guat City. Typically the buses have a driver and a wingman who hangs out the door shouting out where the bus is going , trying to beckon passengers on board and taking the money. So this guy is hanging out of one brightly coloured chicken bus shouting "Antigua , Antigua" so I wave at him and shout "si , si". He jum...
Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala garygapyearI met my friend Chris and spent a few days in Antigua. We climbed Pataya Volcano, did some shopping, and drinking in the center.
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala itenerant78And what a rash it is. Itīs nice and white, bumpy and generally looks like little tiny blisters all over my skin. Yummy!! However, Iīm feeling mostly better today, so thatīs what really counts. This morning I wandered around Antigua - what a fantastic little town. Although itīs been inundated with tourists, itīs still quite lovely. And the food here is pretty good too!! Then I found an English bookstore...had to trade in Jack Kerouacīs On the Road. It was an okay book, but I think it was a ba...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala jessica_cdnWe did very little in Antigua but climb a volcano. I guess its not something you do everyday all the same! We arranged it with a tour group for a Guide/Security Guard as there have been a lot of episodes of muggings on the trek recently. So, with our skinny Security Guard in tow we started walking from the little village of San Francisco at the base of the volcano. The last biggest eruption was 45 years ago so we figure its due another burst. Its funny how people live there and go about their...
