Calle C Sur y Avenida Sexta Oeste, San Mateo David, Panama

I catch an early water taxi to Almeranti. This is the big Banana port. Large ships take containers of Bananas all over the world. As you get closer to Almeranti you see the first signs of pollution in the water. There are fisher menīs huts all around the harbor and it looks like they just turf their rubbish into the water. Plastic bottles and garbage floating everywhere. I grab a taxi at the wharf and ask to be taken to the Bus for David. Two minutes later I am dumped at a dilapidated street ...

On the
road again headed to David, Panama. After the drama of the Costa Rica
boarder we were prepared to spend the whole day getting into Panama but
it was a breeze. We zipped into the town of David without a hitch and
settled into our new hostel The Purple House. Yes, every thing was
purple, everything. David boasts almost no sites or things to recommend,
but we did have a pretty good meal at Restaurant Jenny. This is a
Chinese chain that must have 10,000 restaurants in ...
After spending the day in David Devin and I drove up the mountain to the quaint town of Boquete. On the way we found the most perfect used bookstore... it was straight out of New York and I was in bliss.
We walked around the cute mountain village for a few hours before we meet Devinīs boss for dinner and drinks. It was great to see him again and we really enjoyed our time together. After dinner we drove back down the moutain and stayed in David for the night so that we could head in t...
not too much to say about david. we spent three (or four?) rainy days here, but mostly we just watched tv and drank the free coffee. we stayed at the purple house, which is operated by andrea, a woman from new york. she offered us a discount to watch the hostel for a few hours while she did some errands one day, which was cool. and she also connected us with tansy, who is a longterm english teacher volunteering in the indigenous village of soloy. thanks to the connection, we were able to spen...
David, Panama danielaccgwhile we were at the purple house hostel in david, panama, a couple of weeks ago, it rained. all the time it rained. we didn't have nuthin' to do really it rained so much. luckily the purple house hostel has binders full of information about all kinds of things in the area, which are always being stuffed with more scribbled-on flyers and bits of scrap paper by tourists who come through and share their experiences. we found a small scribbling in one binder on one flyer that mentioned a volunte...
Soloy, Panama danielaccgJust a quick one, as I have to catch a bus soon... Iīm back in the Purple House (David) having just returned from Bocas del Toro, which is on the Caribbean side of Panama. Ton and I met up with Joseph, Svein and Simon (and Kate, who we knew from Nicaragua). Had a really good time drinking and dancing to raggaton and swimming in the sea. We had one beautiful sunny day, so we went to a really nice beach, which involved a jungle-style hike for about 25 minutes. However, nobody told me so I was d...
Bocas, Panama didoblotOur first week in Panama was spent in Boquete and David in the Chiriqui region. Boquete is a village in the Chiriqui highlands and has a very nice cool climate, which we were very glad of for a few days! We hiked the beautiful Senderos de los Quetzals (walk of the Quetzals), taking us deep into the forested mountains, in search of the elusive Quetzal bird. We still never managed to see one, it doesnīt help that they are green! We think we heard the call but thats about it! The hike took us to...
Panama City, Panama dospollosYep..I'm an idiot..I should zip up my valuables in my backpack...and I should separate my cards into different compartments. No.. I didn't get pickpocketed..I was pretty much the only one on the hiking trail, Los Senderos de Quetazeles. All I can think is that my wallet fell out of my bag at one of the numerous muddy points that I got a bootie and almost fell over. Thankfully, I didn't realise until I was on the bus back otherwise I would have felt obliged to trace my steps of the 15km hike.....
