Manic First Night (26 July)
We got the bus on Sunday 26th from Urabamba after our colectivo escapade from Ollantaytambo. This was fairly incident free, aside from the driver, as is often the case, allowing aboard more passengers than seats and thus for the duration of the trip I was treated to the unnecessarily proximate presence of a nine year old boy sporting the ludicrous combo of pink frilly granny hat atop a black hood, haunting me a...
Well, after a couple of nights worth of sleep lost to overnight bus trips, I decided it was in my best interest to fly myself from Lima to Cusco instead. For $70 and a one hour flight it was well worth it! Spent the first day at the hostel relaxing on the couch and watching movies to allow my body to acclimatize. Going from sea level in Lima to 3326m in one hour is quite exhausting. Walking a flight of stairs has the same affect as going for an hour jog around the seawall! Jeremy showed up at...
Cusco, Peru amyleighStrikes, strikes *nd more strikes. Wh*t I´m le*rning more *nd more of in South Americ*, if the people feel supressed by the governemnt (which is often) they simply shut things down to r*ttle * few c*ges *nd h*ve their voices he*rd. Being stuck in Arequipe for 4 d*ys could h*ve been worse. A trendy city, with * r*ging night life, kept me preoccupied whilst w*iting for the bus route to Cusco to open up. When it fin*lly did, the experience w*s quite unique! I m*n*ged to find te only bus comp*ny ...
Cusco, Peru andrewgalak Time for another update folks!!
Last time we left you we were about to leave Arequipa and Head to Cusco.. We made it to Cusco on the night bus with no dramas - no spewing, no road blocks or any sign of the strike being back on (PHEW!).
Cusco is lovely, we spent the first day relaxing as the bus got in at 6am, and no one can really sleep on a bus. There are lots of advenure things to do in Cusco - mountain bike riding, hiking, para-gliding, rafting etc. so we did a bit of resea...
Hola, After a shockingly bad 15 hour bus journey from Puno along bumpy, dusty tracks, in order to avoid the road block on the main road, we arrived in Cusco, where we had arranged to meed Katie and Emily (two friends from back home). We met up with the girls at the hostel, but seeing as niether Matt nor myself got any sleep on the bus, we both collapsed into bed for a nice long snooze straight away. Once we had been revitalised by some delicious and much needed sleep, we headed into the centr...
Cusco, Peru chrishodsonArriving in Cusco it was immediately obvious that it is the most beautiful city we have visited in South America. The architecture is stunning and everything is maintained well and kept clean. The only drawback is the city is kept like this for tourism and everybody is out to sell you something. It´s impossible to walk around the main area of town without having someone run up to you trying to get you into their restaurant or bar, or sell you massages, paintings or tattoo´s. I found it very ...
Cusco, Peru fillyBack in Cusco...again! I actually have two groups of visitors coming down from The States for vacation. And what better place to show off the culture and scenery of South America than in Cusco and the Sacred Valley of The Inkas? Cusco is packed with adventure and a great place for those with only a short vacation. They each have only 8 or 9 days for the entire trip ...a traveling blink to me....but for them it's all they've got. I have no idea how the working class does it! So I've returned ...
Cusco, Peru jeffsadventuresAfter receiving my Amazsonas refund and partying one last time in La Paz, it was time to catch up with the lads again in Cusco, Peru. I decided to repeat my trick of staying up all night before catching an early morning bus seeing as it had worked so well the last time, but it appears that that may have been a once off as sleep proved elusive on this occasion. Regardless, I traded the noisy, smelly, chaos of Bolivia for the noisy, smelly chaos of Peru, arriving in Cusco where they sell t-shir...
Cusco, Peru roryd
... yelled at us. "RUN!!!" Everyone who was waiting in line ran SO FAST to get on that bus! We ran as fast as we could and we beat most people onto the bus because we were closer to the bus than most people. When we got near the doors everyone was SO squished. They were pushing and yelling "Empuje! Empuje!" which means, "PUSH! PUSH!" It was so funny! We felt like we were in a mosh pit! Haha. We pushed and pushed and fought our way onto the bus. Against all ...
