We arrived in Arequipa around 7am. The bus journey was pretty good; I slept better than on the previous night buses. However, this was abruptly brought to an end when at 6am some hideous 80s "classics" came blaring out of the sound system, accompanied by their equally disturbing videos on the TV screen. This was to wake us up for breakfast, of course, but rather unenjoyable nonetheless. It seems to be a tradition on night buses to plague weary passengers with utterly ***** music p...

Arequipa, Peru bom_globalWednesday 27th June - Friday 6th July Arrived 5:00am in Cuzco on Wednesday 27th June on the overnight bus from Arequipa. A 10 hour bus journey and managed to sleep most the way despite a fellow passenger's 9 1/2 hours of sickness! Spent a couple of days acclimatising (3,300 m) exploring the city and finding a Spanish school. Cuzco is the gringo capital of Peru and so whole place full of guest houses, restaurants and bars. Lovely clean city, and lots of see, including a huge traditional market...
Cuzco, Peru claireandrossNice to be somewhere new after spending so long in Cusco. Arequipa is a lot more chilled out than Cusco was, and a lot warmer! Only spent a couple of days here, and a few days on a trek in Colca Canyon. The convent in the pictures is definately worth looking round, the women inside arenīt allowed any outside contact, fortunately they have now retreated into just one corner of their land and the rest is open to the public. We also went to see the Ice Mummy exhibit. Unfortunately Juanita (the m...
Arequipa, Peru copper86We arrived in Arequipa in the morning and headed straight for The Point hostel. After checking in we went off to look around the city and ended up of course in a bar having an afternoon drink in the sunshine. It was so nice to finally have a bit of heat!! We went back to the hostel for an afternoon nap and bumped into Scott who I'd met at Loki Cusco. We went out with him to meet his sister Nikki and James who they were travelling with. We went for something to eat and then to the Ice Mummy mu...

Arequipa, Peru frewcandyA pretty bad bus trip with no real food or toilet break for 6 hours brought us to Arequipa, supposedly Perus prettiest city. Unfortunately it has been raining ever since we got here but you can still see that it must be really nice as well as warm when its not. We visited a bad ass 16th century convent where a bunch of rich nuns had giant cells, their own maids and lived in a small village within the city. We took a tour with a funny Peruvian lady who told us lots of stuff about the monastery...
Arequipa, Peru jeffandlisa After small town Nazca I was looking for big things from Arequipa. And I wasn't let down.
Arequipa is the second largest city on Peru and most people use it as a base for checking out Colca Canyon, which is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the USA and is home to some impressive condors. So, as good travellers, we promptly booked a two day tour to head out the following day.
There were 8 of us in total. We were picked up at 3am and, after a freezing cold ride in a mini bus w...

... or all these amazing places Ive always wanted to visit, or the impact that tourism had had on the preservation of local customs. I think that tehre are far too many people in this world, and that no one seems to know their rightful place in it. So that is me. This is my life as it is unfolding now. Everything is very fluid, and I think that although it has its ups and downs, it's moving in the direction I want it to. Thanks for tuning is, and until next time, Marlie In Peru
