What was I thinking when I only wanted to do Sydney for two weeks and see nothing else in Australia because I wanted to travel mainly Asia. I think I was mad. Well, thank god my mind set has changed. I LOVE IT. What a beautiful country.
I don't know how to manage to squeeze in all what I want to see but maybe I extend my stay here for a week or so.
Well, let's start with the story about Finding Nemo. Whoever knows me well and my immense fear of deep water will gasp now and hold their ...
Have now arrived in the great playground that is Australia and heading south from Cairns down the gold coast. The 'city' of Cairns is a nice little place with most of the action based around the coastal area and the nearby streets, which are crammed with a mix of hostels, guest houses and hotels. Travel agencies abound although the number of actual tour companies are few and all are well respected. If there is one thing that can be said about Cairns it that it is geared up to the tourism indu...
Cairns, Australia kevgregoryWoah! I went to Cairns, thinking to spend a week or so, see the reef, a few other things, and one day I woke up and had been there for 3 weeks. Crazy. And, I really didn't do much while I was there. I was just incredibly lazy. Oh, and the next couple entries aren't going to have pictures yet. Its too expensive to be online where I am right now, so Ill have to wait a few days til Im in Adelaide. But back to Cairns... The first week I was in Cairns, I almost literally did nothing. Most days I s...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia murf6481Well it turns out you can't just fly to paradise, you have to go through Cairns. Let me explain. Cairns, as much as it's tourist bureau would have you believe, is not a mecca of beauty and enchantment, but rather of backpackers who are poor, horny, and nocturnal. As you can imagine my agenda doesn't exactly jive with this. I was in a room with 5 other girls, 3 German, 2 Canadian. One of zee Germans actually decided that enough was enough and was heading out. I think she felt bad for me as she...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia ngarneauArriving at the airport into torrential rain, it was still boiling hot. My hostel was probably one of the nicest I'd stayed at in terms of facilities, gorgeous rooms and a huge decked area overlooking a pool, full of big comfy sofas and an even bigger fan. It's a nice hostel, though I have to say, when it's covered in vomit, it loses a bit of its charm. Being woken up at 4am because a fellow room mate is drunk, shouting and being sick all over the bathroom is not my idea of fun and one of tho...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia pricklyleafBy the time I leave Cairns, I wll have been here for 11 nights. That's a long time considering that there's not a great deal to do in Cairns. While here I went on a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef and spent 2 days, 1 night on a trip to Cape Tribulation, north of Cairns. The first thing to notice is that everyone says Cairns differently. The locals call is Cannes, like in France, and I reckon they're right. The town centre is built for backpackers, with loads of travel booking places, all o...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia samcohen1987 Hello Australia!!
What a good time in Cairns. It was so nice getting off the plane in Cairns to see swaying palm trees, and realizing I didn't need any warm clothes at all anymore.
I met a lot of really cool people quickly, and spent the next couple of days with all my roommates. Even found out one of them will be in the same course as Beetlejuice is taking in April. Sometimes its such a small world.
Sophie and I decided to book a scuba and snorkle, so we went with Down ...
Hey everyone. We're now in Cairns and we're going to pretend that this is exactly where we thought we'd end up next...it's not like we decided to completely change our plans 3 days before leaving Brisbane :D us? Never! Right so we're here until Saturday when we plan to hop on the Greyhound bus service which will basically shuttle us all the way down the east coast to Sydney, hopping on and off wherever we please along the way. Our last days in Brisbane were really nice...if a little sedate. I...
