Nice hostel with great friendly owners. Could do with a bit more space in the kitchen, but hostel was very busy this weekend so it's probably not normally that cramped!

This week I continued to stay with Roger and Barbara on the dairy farm. It is a lovely place to stay, very quiet, when the grandchildren are not there, and good to be out in the open air. The weather here has been unsettled with it raining on a couple of days, but good weather in between made up for this.

There's a certain pride and respect within the backpacker circle for travellers who can experience the best adventures a country has to offer for as cheap as possible. As budget travellers in an expensive country like New Zealand, this was especially important for us. In New Zealand, there are many different ways that a traveller can get around, …

We got hitched, we hitchhiked, we hiked

At the tender age of 30, after 3.5 years of being a fully employed physician, I began my foray into hitchhiking. We made it to the Bay of Islands and decided to do a hike to an old lighthouse in Cape Brett. The hike was 17.4km of fairly steep up and downs with a hut at the end that we could stay in overnight and then hike back the next day. The …

Arrived in Paihia and have lost my first item which is my New Zealand travel guide book :(.

Hopefully I will get it back since it was very helpful.

Paihia is a beautiful city on the water and I am looking forward to touring around tomorrow.
