The private room was awesome, felt like a hotel stay. some of the staff were nicer than ours, but overall they were friendly and generally helpful. I wouldn't go back though.

Excellent location, staff and facilities! They went out of their way to help me as I had a new ATM card shipped there.

The Mango tree is a good all around hostel with good enough facilities. The showers are decent which is more than can be said about many others in Brazil. Some of the shared rooms are a little cramped but manageable. The kitchen area is of a reasonable size as is TV room. There is a nice open bar area were drinks are served until 10pm. This is also a great place to meet other travellers and sit and have a drink/chat etc. The staff are friendly and the place is clean.

After a few rest days and a travel day, we arrived last night in Rio. Without the benefit of speaking Portuguese, we are not able to have the fullest experience, but the people are engaging and actually try to teach us some of the Portuguese as we interact on the street, or cab or beach etc. Really fun. They laugh a lot - with us? Today it was over …

Thanks again Emirates. Lovely flight. We had to get up around 4:30am to make a 7:30am departure, but for some unsettling reason we got a call from reception at 2:30am asking us if we were expecting any visitors to our room. No. Just a wake up call at 4:30am. Still.. it made going back to sleep difficult. Thankfully once we were on-board and on our …

Finally we traveled to a warm place! It is summer here. People at the beach, flip flops and shorts. I think the temperature was in the 90's and the sunny sky was so nice. We saw the huge Christ statue on top of a mountain. It was carved from soapstone around 1920 or so. They have huge slums with very poor people living in homes they make themselves …

19 hours in a surprisingly semi-comfortable coach went by fairly quick. We were both impressed with the level of service and overall comfort on this method of travel. definitely was a relief not having to run to a gate to board a flight as we hear our names on the overhead system. The quality of the service was so high that a stop at a buffet for …
