No.4 Xiao Tong Xiang, Tongren Road Chengdu, Sichuan, China
We boarded our train to Chengdu with high expectations after the last one, i was all ready for my full nights sleep but was soon to be disapointed. We thought we had found the perfect two beds then just before the train pulled away a family got on with a small child and decided to take the bunks above us. We suffered 17 hours of noise, people smoking, people sitting on our beds talking when we were trying to sleep and children running up and down. Ahhhhhh
So we were supposed to stay he...

This morning we awoke to more snow---lots and lots of snow. We checked out of the hotel in hopes of being able to fly out of Xi’an to Chengdu. Before we went to the airport we went to the ancient Xi’an city wall. This is a city wall built over 600 years ago to protect the city from enemy invaders. It has an arrow tower with many windows to shoot arrows from. It has a bell tower to ring the ...

Chengdu, Sichuan, China blummo... the main gate was locked so the bus had to let us out on the street so we could go in the foot gate), everything was silent. We didn’t see even one other person out walking. On a Friday night. Talk about a difference from campus’s in the US. There wasn’t any sound of parties in the dorms or even people talking. It was quite eerie, since the campus is so full of people during the day.
It was almost 1 am by the time we got back to our rooms ...
... work some 90 years after his death. Each of his toes are the size of a queensized bed, and he has well manicured nails. We took some fun photos with big Buddha. We got back to the carpark at 2pm and were bundled into a minivan that drove us at breakneck speed to a public bus going back to Chengdu. When we got back it was so cold we went and bought more warm layers and made our way out to the airport to fly to Xi'an the home of the Terracotta Warriors.
Chengdu, Sichuan, China matadv... providing all of its down stream areas including the entire Chengdu with floor protection and water supply ever since. The dam is still in full fuction as it started two thousand years ago. Sichuan people of later generations are in great debt and feel deep gratitude for the father-son team and built the "Two King's Temple" as their way to offer thanks to the father and the son and to pray for the dam to ...
Chengdu, China pdjw... the earthquake has rendered the road to Jiuzhaigou impassable, so the only other road I can take goes through Guangyuan, which is in the northeast of Sichuan. I can only hope that the dmage to the roads in the area on Sunday was minimal. Furthermore, every day I lose to Chinese bureaucracy is a day I have to make up for somehow. I've decided to skip Kashgar and drive straight to Urumuqi, where I have to apply for a Kazakh visa, something I could have done by mail ...
Chengdu, China throwerw... not cooperating bumble of a run to the whistle-laden caretaker as she delivered some apple. Even armed with morning rations, it was a difficult task to coax some of the lazier pandas down from their play perches. The cuddly-factor is enticing enough to get some visitors to pay the 1000 RMB/$140 for a quick photo-op with one of them. Even though Laurie's b-day was approaching, she fought the urge to burn a hole in her pocket and force a baby panda to ...
Chengdu, China teklife23... name them all. But, it seems as if China doesn't try to put on a façade for anything, well, except for the Olympics. I think the Olympics may not go well for them because the world will realize how China still does many things incredibly wrong. Human rights, government regulated media, general disorganization, etc. etc. I think I've written enough. I hope to go out this weekend and just take lots of pictures of everyday life.
