Area 10, West Gate Village Dali, Yunnan, China
Kiinan mittakaavassa todellakin pieni kaupunki ...
Dali, Yunnan, China henna80 That is the most common expression from little old ladies in the old market town of Dali.
I liked there colored sheets there. I wish i had bought more than one of them because I've not seen them like that anywhere else in my travels.
The Jade Emu is a nice guest house within walking distance from the main gate of the ancient town. It is run by an Expat who plays pool to bet on a free nights stay if you can beat him. This is where I met Leonie, the awesome German girl I ended up ...
Dali
It is a short trip in a modern coach to Dali, another mountain town situated at a slightly lower
altitude. Evidence of the different ethnic minorities can be seen in the variety of costumes. And also in the facial features. I have to say that the Tibetans are particularly fine looking people.
We rent an electric bike and set off for the lake and the port. Well, to be honest, to begin with, we wobble around the quietest roads we can ...
... I'd found the last five days cycling good fun - but I'd had loved a bigger bike. I was definitely too tired to shop, but I attempted to straggle through Dali's beautiful old town. Dali is apparently the best place in Yunnan for shopping but I was very disappointed. We were told it would be cheap, and it is - as in cheap, ****** stuff. It is aimed at the Chinese market and if I have to see one more Naxi woman's blouse I will die. I should have ...
Dali, Yunnan, China red_gamer... and steamed bread, 'mon the carbs! Had class at nine but felted icky, just as well the teacher spent an hour hammering five words into us...! Dali campus is friggin massive, and impressive- photos soon! Trekked 10/15mins up the hill after class, stopping to gasp in horror at the dead snake on the road- eeeeeeeeeyeeewww!- and fell into bed. More noodles and tofu for lunch, i crave a cheese sandwiche already, no cheese in this country- wtf!? Gettin used ...
Dali, Yunnan, China stephfitzsmith... French guy, Charles, about the joy of downloading music before heading to a street full of bars for another drink. Me and Tom were chatting about the comedy genius of 'Dude, Where's My Car?' and how great it would be to stay in the Hooters Hotel in Vegas (which I thoroughly intend to do) whilst Koen was stuck in meaningful conversation with Charles about the sorry state of the world etc! When I asked if anyone wanted another beer Koen suggested we try somewhere else. Me ...
Dali, Yunnan, China mattislost... decide to climb the 4000m peak, so tauntingly in view from the garden. A peacefully energetic getaway from my getaway, the mountain did as many have done and tried to kill me. The snow level seemed so close to the top from down by the lake, there couldn't be much left by now, warm as it was in early April. Rising high past the 'cloudy tourist trail' I had walked on a previous visit (complete with chairlift piping out 'take my breath away', as if you ...
Dali, China mrconfused... it was such a beautiful city and we had been there such a short time, however, i was excited to experience rural China where fireworks are legal for New Year's. (In the city they actually sell tape recordings of fireworks???) The journey was long in our minibus, which would be our main mode of transport, but was ok for me as i established a seat where i could extend my legs. We headed NW on this new highway that was literally cut and tunneled through the mountains that make ...
