With the guest house owners not rising any earlier than 7am this was the earliest wakeup call I could get having lost anything of wakeup-able means as I needed to get my butt to the bus station in time for the 8am departure to Singapore. Arriving in good time having chosen the safer taxi option rather than the free town tour the last time I got the local bus here we all had to wait a little longer while the driver expertly fixed a dodgy luggage compartment fastening with a lighter and sledgeh...

The flight was only an hour and forty five minutes, so soon we arrived in Singapore at 1am local time. Singapore airport is amazing; beautifully designed, hi-tech and serene. I
quickly checked my emails on one of the many free internet terminals,
collected my luggage, then went on yet another spasticated hunt for the
shuttle bus, wandering for ten minutes before finally finding it. I
told the woman on the desk my hostel's address, got a ticket, and fifteen minutes later
the bus...

In the morning I intended to spend a quick bit of time on the internet to book a hostel for Kuala Lumpur, but after this short task became embroiled in a hideous two hours of attempting to remove some viruses from both my camera and USB stick. The *******s kept regenerating every time I deleted them, and as a result I spent ages trawling the internet for methods of removal. Finally I worked out that I could effectively remove the virus, but when I reinserted the device, it would reappear once...

Got to Singapore without too much hassel. The woman who checked me in warned me that Singapore Customs may want to see my ticket out of the country before they let me in. As I don't have one, she told that I should have my credit card ready to purchase a plane ticket somwhere. Balls to that! Luckily the immigration officer took about as much notice as his average spanish counter part at 3am in Benidorm Airport. It's so humid its hard to walk around with my pack on, and it night time. Skyscrapers dominate the skyline in all their modern engineered glory. They don't look all that glorious, but the shapes and angles of the glass and marble giants have undoubtedly set many an architect's little heart beating faster. Personally I think the modernism makes the city feel sterile and empty of human touch, but that may be just because everything short of breathing is illegal. We hadn't much time to see Singapore. We're only here for 2 days before we jet off down to Bali. We heard of a place called the Inn Crowd hostel and so we booked it on the internet. It's a cool place with free internet, loads of other travellers and a bar which has cheap drinks. Cheap drinks in Singapore means that you can get a glass of Tiger for 2 euro ! Singaore is pretty expensive compared to all the other South East Asian cities. It's pretty good for the aul electronical equipment though...

I've been revelling in colonialism, cleanliness and curry since landing in Singapore. I flew out of Jakarta on Thursday morning, having had very little sleep. Why?
