The Blue Mountains, as they call them, are more like valleys you look over to see what looks like mountains on the other side covered in a blue haze. But the mountains are the same size as the cliff you're standing on to look at them so it's a bit decieving. The blue haze comes from the eucalyptus trees, I'm told, but I wasn't paying much attention to that part of the research. What excited me, and excited Rory more, was the absailing and canyoning day trip we were about to embark on. Our goo...
Katoomba, Australia amwiley The Blue Mountains, Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th September
The first stop in the Blue Mountains is only an hour away by train from the centre of Sydney, making it an ideal area for a short break for locals, or as commuter villages. The road and rail run parallel to each other along the ridge of the mountains, as opposed to through the valleys, and another hour down the line, with a different stop every five minutes, is the largest town in the mountains called Katoomba, which was my fi...
Lydiane already did an entry about the blue mountains but unfortunately we lost the pictures...So here you are, few pictures of the famous three sisters in Katombaa where guy and myself spent a week end. But the best thing about Katoomba and the blue mountains is this tiny youth hostel called the Flying Fox. If you ever travel to Katombaa, make sure you stay there. The bosses Ross and Wendy are the kindest persons I ever met and they will make sure that you will have a lovely time in their yo...
Katoomba - Blue mountains, Australia froggiesAt the weekend 8 of us visited the blue mountains in Katoomba. It started off with a bus journey where this Preacher was on the on bus telling us stories about God and when the second coming will be in 2012. i'll be looking forward to that. Anyway when we arrived it was really cold. We checked into the hostel and drank there for a while and went out in the evening. Suprizingly there was alot of people out for such a small place. The next morning we checked out the hostel and went for some muc...
Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia iandandersonBy early afternoon after leaving Newcastle, we had reached our much anticipated destination of the Blue Mountains - only an hour or so drive west of Sydney, yet it's another world entirely. The Blue Mountains are a place of profoundly spectacular natural beauty. Regrettably, we had only a day and a half to explore their splendour. And obviously that only allowed us to see a fraction of it; but even that was enough to keep our mouths continuously agape. After checking into our hostel, the Flyi...
Blue Mountains, Australia jammer32Ok, so to be honest it was tough to drag myself away from Melbourne and everything that was there... but seriously, i am chuffed to bits now i've done it. I took the overnight coach to Sydney (surprisingly empty - loads of room to stretch out and sleep) then went straight to the train station to go out to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains (2 hours west of Sydney). Somehow (no idea how, i had over half an hour to wait) i managed to miss my train, so i grabbed an egg butty from the cafe and realis...
Sydney, Australia jules27After checking into our hostel the Flying Fox at Katoomba, we went off to wander the townsite and do a short tour. Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating and we were not able to see anything of the Blue Mountains for the first 2 days in the area. We made a valiant attempt, but the cloud cover was quick thick and we were literally walking through the clouds. Our last day & a half though we had fabulous weather. Our first good weather day we left the hostel early in the day to do a ...
Katoomba, Australia juliensteveA place you never quite get round to leaving... I was a bit anxious about staying somewhere on my own again because I didn't meet many people in Pittwater but this place was completley different and I started talking to people straight away. There was a chill out hut in the garden and as much tea as I could drink so I was pretty happy, especially when I found someone to talk to with the same geeky tv interests as me! Think he was as shocked as me so we managed to kill the hours later in the w...
Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia kateinausSB: It's a strange 'existence' this backpacking lark and something I'm not exactly used to. I mean when I go on holiday, I normally have my own room for starters, and if I walk past a restaurant I like the look/smell of, chances are I'll end up eating there. Not quite the case when you're backpacking. Don't get me wrong, being different doesn't mean it's bad - I've absolutely loved this first week in Oz - it's just different. The first few days we spent checking out the delights that Sydney c...
He...
