Abel Tasman National Park, South Island, New Zealand bowkerexploitsKia ora! Out of Oz and into Kiwi land, we flew into Queenstown the partying and extreme sports capital of South Island New Zealand. With so many backpackers and travellers its difficult to meet actual Kiwis but this makes up for the awesome nightlife in the centre!Theres heaps of backpacker discounts in the bars and lots of brilliant ideas such as selling teapots of mixed spirits :D. Bungy jumping is advertised everywhere in the town, where one of the best jumps is 134metres over a canyon! We...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand commandercoolFirst day on the roads of New Zealand went off without a hitch...Mer and I are actually suprisingsly good at it. Nevertheless, I did opt for the extra insurance and still feel good about that decision. The roads are better than my previous experience driving on the left in Ireland, but still windy and hilly. We DID make it about 500 miles in 6 1/2 hours, without nicks or bruises, so I am impressed. Also, it was about the most beautiful drive I have ever done winding through the South Alps. We...

Our next day is going to consist of mainly driving so leaving early seemed the best option. The roads on the way to Nelson are very windy and mountainous and the scenery is truly spectacular. To break the journey we stopped at the Marau falls and had some stacks from our food supplies. Later we stopped in a small town called Wakefield but there weren’t any café’s so no lunch for us today!!
Eventually after 5 hours we made it to Nelson and stopped at the beach, where we me...

... spirits of the dead spend three days before departing’. That evening, we cautiously drove up to look for another DOC campsite, and actually found it - Result! The campsite was well worth finding too, it was situated in the most stunning location - in a bay with the bluest water and whitest sand, and not a person in sight (apart from an old man who was staying there in his campervan, we were quite glad that we weren’t the only people staying out in the middle of ...
Marahau, Nelson, New Zealand katandstevie... us to cross a stretch of beach that is only accessible at low tide. The reason that we did this was because the taxi/guide CLAIMED it would only take 20 minutes to go from one to the other..... What he had failed to mention was that, if you wanted to keep your shoes and socks dry, you'd have to take your shoes off for parts of this stretch and that the shells left behind here after the tide went out were VERY sharp... OUCH!!! It took us closer to 45 ...
Marahau, South Island, New Zealand wolftrails... were walking some of the track - back from Bark Bay to Marahau, which was meant to take 7 hours, it did take us about 6 and think it was about 13 miles - my legs were certainly feeling the effects of such activity. A really stunning walk along the coast & through the woodland. That evening we treated ourselves to dinner out - it's rock & roll baby!!! More soon xx
Motueka, South Island, New Zealand bec_f... however a lot of people on the path, the only part of the trip to NZ where I have felt that there were too many people. It seemed we had taken the most popular trip and everyone was walking the path between Bark and Torrent Bays. Amongst these were the Canadian Oldies (surprisingly agile for their age and size), the Teutonic Twins (clad in black from head to toe; walked with a ...
Nelson, South Island, New Zealand richardhmcotton... had no idea what they were getting into. There is no tommorrow until I am finished. I am a slave to my inspiration. All that said, it is just a painting, albeit a passionate one. Better paintings have been made, but not by me. I think it may be as close as anyone will ever get to seeing me from the inside out, but then again, why not just light up bliff and trip out on the pretty colors. Final pics will be up when they're up. For know, sketches and progress photos.
