Berlin, a BILLION times better than Paris!!

A travel blog entry by slee604

Greetings family and friends!

It's been awhile since I've taken the reins on writing a blog post, so I thought I would sit down and hammer one out (mostly because Stef wouldn't stop nagging me about how lazy I've been!)

We've just returned from an amazing trip to Berlin, Germany. So far it's one of our most favorite cities we have …

On the 24th we took a long 6 hour train to Berlin. We arrived at around 5:30pm and made our way to the hostel. The hostel was nice and it was attached to a bar so we were able to meet and see a lot of people. Europe basically stops the 24-26th of December. Barely anything was open the time that we were there. We ate dinner …

Our train from Amsterdam to Berlin was a little rocky... we forgot to activate our Eurail passes, and got kicked off in a small town quite a bit east of Amsterdam. Luckily, we found a Starbucks (they were thrilled to meet people from Seattle) and made friends for the two hours we spent there. Lovely place...
Once we got to Berlin, we found our …

20th Century European History

A travel blog entry by markandrews

Before I update my blog I really want to write down all the stuff I've been taking in over the past couple of weeks relating to European history (mainly 20th century). I've learned heaps and I know I'll forget it if I don't get it down....if you're interested then have a read. This'll be a very simplified version, but hopefully it's a decent …

East Berlin Gallary and the Terror Museum (updatd)

A travel blog entry by markandrews

Wednesday, August 4th
Woke up, listened to tunes on my ipod for a while then got ready for the day. Didn't bother with breakfast cos I had a lot to see. Hired a bike from the hostel and set off for the East Berlin Gallery, which is a section of the Berlin wall that is covered with art work....some of it was amazing. Again, I'll let the pictures …

As we had been already to Berlin, it was a brief stopover and a bed to sleep in before training it across Germany on some of the most efficient trains Europe and the world for that matter, has seen. We stayed at St Christopher's that night for a mere 8.00 euro each, including breakfast. St Christopher's, as many backpackers across Europe would know, is renowned for their hostels. Affordable, clean, a big bar and awesome staff. Again, it held up to its reputation and for that sort of money you couldn't go wrong.
