Hanging in Cairo
Giza To Central Cairo (12 km)
Australian Hostel (140Le)
With our visit to Giza over and our train to Aswan departing on the 4th, we had a day to hang in Cairo. From Giza, we took a taxi to the metro stop for the ride into central Cairo and walked a few blocks and we were quickly at the front desk of Pension Roma. A group of …
I made it to the Pyramids
As I get closer to Cairo on the train, some guys are talking to me in Arabic and being friendly but I have no idea what they are saying. Then another guy comes to the in between train car area and offers me a real seat. Him and his friend share one seat and let me sleep in the other, and it feels so nice to have a real place to close my eyes. Then …
Bowling for Cairo
A day of Photographic Mis-Adventure. Should have tried for some surreptitious shots of the Cairo Railway Station (not really supposed to, and we didn't even think to) as we went to buy tickets for the overnight to Aswan for the next evening. Absolute Chaos. The redevelopment is probably going according to plan, however, when a construction foreman …
Jan' 16th is Pyramid Day!!!
As I write this I have just noticed that I small powerfully of horse....Rhiannon doesn't seem to mind though, in fact she's dozing, and if the truth be known smells of horse badly too!! I'll explain later. Also let me apologise in advance for those with limited time, there are 43 photos attached, and there could easily have been more. Rhiannon …
Early arrival....late sleep
Another plane, another destination. For the first time ever both Rhiannon and myself managed a modicum of quality sleep on a plane, alternately snoozing and watching the hideous selection of popular action movies. Is the A-Team really appropriate for an Arabic carrier, and on that point, is the first 30 minutes of Iron Man appropriate either? Still …

TravelPod Member ReviewsThe Australian Hostel Cairo
From the first moments in the Australian Hostel you'll feel like your back home with friends. Comfy common area, generously sized beds and rooms (we took a private) and staff that don't serve you but rather, share your travel experience. Go drinking and bowling with them (great fun), hang out and read / blog, and make use of their extensive knowledge of Cairo. All advice is accurate and free of charge....so are the smiles.
Thankyou / Shaukrn to all the guys (and chick) for their time and help. We will be staying here again at least twice whilst in Egypt and could easily choose to be here for a lot longer.
Cheers and keep rockin' to Eslam, Achmed, Mustafa, Breita and Erin....we miss you guys already.

Pretty good hostel. I liked the spaciousness of the rooms and the free wi-fi especially. The staff was very helpful and became friends during my short stay. We would watch football games together at night in the common room. If you stay here make sure you ask for a room that is not on the side of the main street. The noise will keep you up all night.
