Located in Greektown, the Chicago Parthenon Hostel is about a few blocks from Union Station, which is city's main train station. The hostel is a very short walk from UIC-Halsted stop on the Blue Line of the El trains.

Finding it can be a little tricky, as you may get confused by the signage being over a restaurant. The hostel is a narrow doorway, next to the restaurant, and can be missed. It is across the street, as well as diagonally, from the National Hellenic Museum.

Entering the place, it already does not look promising, as it just looks very tight. After checking in, you have to go up some stairs to get to the dorms.

The dorm rooms look okay and respectable. And enough space in the room, so it does not feel cramped at all. There are small lockers in the room. The beds feel comfortable. So what is wrong with the room? The air-conditioning can be spotty, as it does get hot in the room during the summer, if you stay during the daytime. As someone who sweats very badly, this is not acceptable.

The placements of bathrooms just seem random, as it seems all over the place. There seems to be one shower room, with 2 stalls, per floor. And only one sit-down toilet, and another bathroom with sinks and only urinals for the men. Can't comment how it would be for women! The bathrooms themselves are okay, but it seems like they have been cut up in pieces and placed throughout the floor. So getting to them can be annoying.

There is WiFi, but I found it to be a problem if in the dorm room. It only seems to work well in the common room, most of the time.

The common room is okay, though small. And I did not find much of a kitchen. There is a refrigerator to store your food, but only a microwave to prepare your food. And a few tables to eat it there.

There is breakfast, which is included. But you will have to go next door, into the restaurant, for it. This one is kind of good, as it also includes hard-boiled eggs, along with cereal and bread.

While not really a bad hostel in itself, I did find this one to be a disappointment, considering how much I paid AND choosing to stay at this one over ones that I liked a lot better (but harder to reach). It does pass in some areas, but falls short in more areas. I would only recommend this place, mainly for its location, as it is walking distance from Union Station, Greyhound station, and the Blue Line (which comes and goes from O'Hare Airport), thus saving some time from transport.

... store we headed back to the hotel for a brief respite.

Dinner time consisted of another Chicago tradition – an Italian beef sandwich at Al’s. We started off a bit shaky due to Dawson spilling his drink as soon as we sat down (hmm.. I sense a theme here today.. Jared is usually our clumsy one). It was a great sandwich though. In fact Jared said it was his best ever.

On to another tradition – riding the elevated train ...
